Best candidate for local as unappetising as unhealthy is the 3-in-1 beloved of many people I work with: chips and fried rice drowned in curry sauce so the result is a semi-solid stodgy mass/mess. I gave up mostly on making salad rolls and sandwiches and just eat the bread alongside a plate of salad. That stops it from squeezing out and shooting all over me.

daylight should pass through the resulting fine pores. The cucumbers, if sliced thin enough, should permit a newspaper column-heading to be read through one. Right, I will try this method next. I had to have a break from cucumber sandwiches and now I have a cucumber mountain and can't think what to do with them. Reading a newspaper through them will be a fine challenge.

I had an egg and bacon flan...AH Is that because real men don't eat quiche?

On the subject of cucumbers, what would be nice would be to find the old pre-'Telegraph' broad short warty traditional yellowish kind with a thick skin and slight bitterness (like some people I know!). Providing one removes the rind or doesn't mind it, they are lovely sliced thin and left to chill for an hour or so with generous salt to draw the water out and some vinegar. I guess that now, they can only be grown and not bought. Something for Sinistral's allotment!

I had an egg and bacon flan...AH Is that because real men don't eat quiche? Now that's another thread entirely! I take it that "Flans are hot - Quiches are cold" Although I've half a mind that "Flans are sweet Quiches are savoury" In the words of Neddie Seagoon "It's all rather confusing really!"

I remember how kids used to hollow out a loaf and fill it with chips. (Perhaps they still do...) I do that with salad. Not really the same, is it?

Nicer though. You need a decent Baguette to do it properly, the kind where you can cut your mouth on the crust.

There are masses of recipes on line!

But how shall you get it to me? When we were kids, we weren't allowed to serve ourselves the marrow and ginger jam because we were always trying to get the syrup out and leave the lumps so I remember it as very special and rationed out.

I thought the most common thing to do with Marrows was to stuff it with a mince mixture of some kind? Bolognese or Chilli mix or summat.

Mr. E. hates marrow with a passion. Says it makes him gag. As does custard, aspic jelly and mashed potato.
