There was a predecessor or an ancestor of Complan something like it, somebody's invalid food but I forget. I was very fond of Radio Malt. Tablespoon of that in hot milk and you can throw your Horlickses and Ovaltines and Milos out the door. It sort of died in the 60s so my brother had to grow up on a vastly inferior product called Virol.

You can still buy malt extract. I put it in rye bread sometimes - it makes a loaf with quite a sticky texture. Here is an illustration of the most famous literary episode featuring Extract of Malt:

Ooh, yes, I remember Radio Malt - delicious. And that Pooh story jean, thanks for the memory!
But malt on a spoon is very different from malt in a milky drink. As a child I refused to drink milk any way other than out of the fridge and then only in sips (I don't think I was fuddy, but warm milk made me feel a bit sick).
Bournevita was a Horlicksy type drink wasn't it - chocolatey. Can you still buy it?

Can I have another one for not giving you the Disney version?

I like Horlicks, Ovaltine and Ribena. I also adore full cream milk on cereals but hardly ever indulge these days. It's crap in tea though, I always use semi-skimmed as it makes a far better cuppa. Hate cream in coffee. Ugh.
I'm not a great fan of "supplements", either as food or source of vitamins/minerals. A well-balanced diet should give you all your body needs.

Oi, greedy! That was included in the bonus. You woulda got nothing for a Disney pic. I'm harsh but fair etc.
I visited the site it's from and it's Russian so I clicked on the Bing Translator and it's hilarious. I'll copy a bit here.

Yes, creamy tea and coffee kind of stick to your teeth. Although, oddly enough, I quite like a nice Irish coffee

I visited the site it's from and it's Russian... Well it's the original E H Shepard drawing, so that must mean that Disney has completely swamped the original in Western Europe and the USA. Shocking.

I can understand the preference for the E. H. Shepard drawings from an adult's viewpoint, but I bet if you polled a bunch of kids they'd go for the Disney version every time.

That's why they should never get the chance to see them.

I had to do a double take the first time I went to Blackpool by train - as the whole side of the (now) Wilkinson's store there is taken up by this massive frieze made up with a very tactile version of the Fine Fare logo in different positions along the wall - all merged into one another. I think it's fantastic - but I've read that as part of the regeneration project in the town by the station that the whole lot is coming down, frieze and all.
It sounds daft, but with so manyshops going to the wall it would be nice to keep that as a reminder of a once 'local' shop!
