My initial thought was that Patrick had run soeone over and this was his broken wing mirrors; at first glance I saw a face in the top left, peering behind a stick, but now think it is more probably a bowling ball.
So my guess is.....

It's £100,000 by Tracy Emin. Ekshlly I suspect cover of some kind of disk rotating underneath, maybe car wheel showing disk brake. If computer disks were not hermetically sealed, I'd suspect something like that.

Once I had "seen" the shapes as metal reflecting something above it, I was unable to think of them as anything other than mirrors. It never occurred to me that they were holes!

In the second picture they look like holes. I didn't see them that way first time. It loos too and if there is another one to the left. I was thinking of looking down on it but I wonder if it could be vertical guarding something like a tram wheel, maybe part of a model railway set???

Well, my final answer is the back of a circa 1950s washing machine.

Well. I'm disappointed! There was a time when every home had one - not long ago. Some, like mine, still do. OK, you might not see the bottom of it very often, but if you do your dusting properly You probably would have done. For it was the underneath of one of these: Looking at the slots where the ringer is.

I'm still confused. So it is what the phone looks like when you wrench the dial off to dust underneath?
Is there anyone sad enough to do that?

Is it something to do with the gubbins inside a washing machine?
Not that I'd know what the innards look like anyway...
