Christmas gift ideas, please, for the above. Mine also has a birthday in December.
Preferably nothing alcoholic or fattening.

S'funny. The other day I penned a message wondering what I should ask for for my 40th. Seeing as Best Beloved is getting a Digital Piano for hers! - but I thought "There's enough about me on here as it is!" I remember a piece of advice on what to buy the woman who has everything? A bra with three cups! What are your Best Beloved's interests?

Jack Sparrow is into boats - or rahter one fishing boat. He buys everything he needs for it from catalogues, and already subscribes to fishing magazines so that's out!

I've a relation like that - their home is cluttered with really expensive looking models of boats and yachts. We bought them a pair of £1 wooden boats from a pound shop. Irony!

One thing we don't need is more clutter! So it either has to be something for the boat or consumable. He is in a lot of pain with his back and feet, and I am half tempted to buy him a voucher for a massage, but have a horrid feeling he wouldn't go.

Just after posting that, I thought of the ideal present - one of those "miner's lamps" that go round the head, leaving both hands free.
Jack came home at 6pm and chattily announced "Today I bought one of those lamps that attach to the head."
Grrrr!!!

Is that the Davy Lamp? (or whatever it was called). A most weird pressie idea but if that's what he wants, go for it

It's just a little torch on a strap that acts like a headlamp. I know, because he proudly showed it to me!
All you guys - think of something (anything!) that you would like as a pressie.

The older they get the more difficult it becomes (present buying that is) Does he like gardening? I bought Mr. E. a few old fashioned roses in pots for his birthday a couple of years ago.

I dread to think what happens if you were to Google that! The sad thing is, if you did google "flashaholic", you'd probably find tons of links to one of my old haunts...."candle power forums". AH

Yippee! I've thought of something. Jack Sparrow likes watching other birds, so I shall buy him one of those clamps so he can fix the telescope to his car window and sit warm and dry while the dabchicks strut their stuff.

Did you find that via the "7dayshop" link I posted? Loads of cool stuff there. AH

AH - I'm afraid the whole sire is too big for my old computer and dial up connection.
A couple of years ago I asked him for a penknife and got one of those Swiss Army knife jobs your link took me to. But what I had wanted (and thought I had asked for) was a penknife - a single one - in a little case. They don't seem to make them any more.
Until this week I thought that a "flashlight" was a torch for sending coded messages across the English Channel and similar obscure uses. Now I know better, that is much the best idea and thanks.
