I was a late developer to music. An avid watcher of Top of the Pops nevertheless (I remember all the weeks when Minnie Ripperton was at no 1 for instance) with her sitting in that wicker chair. Until the early eighties, as reported, the LP's I had (still do actuallY) were "Mike Sammes singers Hits of the Wombles", "Not the Nine o'Clock News", The Two Ronnies", "The Wurzels; 'Give Me England", a compilation comedy album called "We are Most Amused" amongst others. The memory fades, but I think, the first music album I bought myself was Bananarama's "Deep Sea Skiving". I was rather disappointed though that this wasn't on it!

I also hated this lot at the time, but nothing could have mellowed faster in my brain - and just to here the thumping refrain takes me back to the LEA minibus going back to school.
........and at the time - I was in love..........

Ooh! Look! Play School on Acid! Can I say that all that head wobbling and hip shaking is a tad scary! I sit corrected btw. Ms Ripperton only got to number two. I think I remember that mainly because, at that age, I could reach a similar level of top note as she could!

You really should watch Gwen dancing to your Bananarama song. That routine is so good that it fits every song! I tried to make a video mash up for you but I got frustrated, it's hard! How do all these people do it? So you'll just have to turn the sound down on Gwen and play your video and Gwen at the same time to see what I mean.

I remember being mad about Kate Bush and her Wuthering Heights, talking of high notes. I still like it so no cheap shots. I think she was on the Mike Yarwood show and my parents were making a feeble joke about 'she sings like she's sitting on a hot water bottle' and I thought to myself 'how I hate my parents, they know nothing!' Likewise, watching Top of the Pops and Message in a Bottle or Walking on the Moon, one of them anyway by Police, and my Grandpa said 'how can you like this ridiculous music, it has no tune, they can't sing' and waffled on through the whole of the video. I wasn't best pleased with him either.

My best friend was in love with Kate Bush (back in 1986, anyway).
He drove a Morris Marina. It was so good, that in a reversal of the usual process - when he bought another car - his Dad had the Morris!
not that the two things are remotely related, but I just thought I'd mention it!

I wasn't best pleased with him either. Whilst not being entirely enamoured with her myself. What really annoyed me was the way she spoke! Seemingly incapable of opening her mouth more than a centimetre - it was more of a mumble really! - Perhaps she was afraid of damaging her vocal chords. There, that wasn't cheap was it?

I have nothing but good to say about Kate. There is nothing annoying about her. You are just as bad as my parents.

It's quite possible that the first single I ever bought was "christmas in smurfland". ;D After that, my tastes matured considerably, "Adam & The Ants" and "Madness" became the order of the day...my cousin renewed a few of his Madness albums and donated his old ones to me...the rest as they say, was history. One Step Beyond First LP I ever bought was "Kings of the Wild Frontier"...still a great album after all these years...one the most original sounding bands ever Adam & the Ants. Dog Eat Dog AH

heaven.... technorati.com/videos/youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DKFXQZVGpJN8......when i was pregnant - cheese ones Kate Bush was fab - Wuthering Heights is as good today as it was when first made....a bit like the book both are classics in their own way. Madness still worth a listen too, if you're in the right mood.
