www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00ksj56/Tourettes_I_Swear_I_Cant_Help_It/If you didn't watch this tonight, do take a look. It was funny yet touching. Everyone smiles when you mention Tourettes Syndrome - but for sufferers it's terrible, and this programme shows how it affects two men, a young 15 year old and a man in his 20s. Although, as Mr. E. said, Tourettes today is no big deal. You only have to walk down the street to hear shouting and swearing from the local chavs.

Interesting, too, that not that long ago (and this was a programme following the lives to two people, one of whom had first been filmed in 1989) Tourettes was unheard of, and anyone you saw (and you saw a few in London, believe me) walking along the street barking and swearing, you assumed were stark staring mad and what the hell were they doing out in the world and shouldn't they be in an 'assylum'?
Funny as well, and I laughed helplessly - not at the two Tourettes guys who were sweet and your heart went out to them, but in some of the film from 1989 the shocked reactions of people in the street and in the supermarket were priceless.
I found it touching that the younger guy, who is still at school, was obviously loved by his classmates who all tolerated his outbursts with humour. The older guy had obviously had difficulties, couldn't get a girlfriend and his family had moved away, which was terribly sad.

What does someone with Tourettes do when they really want to swear?
But you're right; it must be horrible.
