Can any of our technically minded boffin types point me in the right direction for the best/easiest way to create my own website for my artwork? Dont want anythink too flashy at all ( i find flashy gimmicky websites annoying, especially if they are for displaying artwork as it distracts from the work) so the main requirements really are obviously picture galleries and various info pages. Anyone point me in the right direction?

There are many about, Costal. This is the one I use, it is easy to use, plenty of space for pictures and comments, plus, it is free. www.freeservers.com/Alan

I got Serif Webplus 6 free with Webuser magazine a few years ago and I used that to build my family history website. I upload it to the internet with Filezilla FTP (kindly recommended by Rob and downloaded free) and it's hosted free with BT as part of my package with them. You can download Serif Webplus 6 free (I just googled). It's fairly simple to use, and you can insert as many photos as you want although the result isn't that sophisticated. However, it suits my purposes just fine.

if you want to sell online it might be worth paying for someone to make a professional looking site for you....just add the cost onto the selling price

Agreed. If it's just for delivering information (like my website) then something simple would suffice, but for selling you need something more flashy.

i want it to look professional.. but as i mentioned in the original post, i dont think 'flashy' websites work regarding promoting artwork. it distracts from the content.

Ah, hold on. Is it a false memory or do I seem to recall you telling me you're a graphic designer? If so, I'll get in touch with my son and find out where he got his website done - he's in the same business.

Not sure if there are any standard template art / illustration websites out there that will take all the work out of it for you. I will ask around.
Otherwise you are going to need to design the site yourself which takes some expertise and it would probably be easier to just get someone else to do it.

Good morning Costal, I just came across a website builder that has templates for art, amongst many others. I says it incorporates drag and drop posting. WIX.com www.wix.com/create/websiteAlan
