I'm supporting Serbia.
The Polish entry (fortunately put out in the last semi iirc) was very disturbing, with ladies being put in headlocks and stuff. It was creepy.

You are a Serbiaphile. Frankly, I'm not even sure I'd let the Eastern European lot in. Bunch of Johnny-come-latelys.

Only creepy if you are one of them new fangled "feminisarists" or whatever. I like Polish women, they obviously know their place. AH

And they suffered for the rest of us, the bulwark between Islam and Christianity, the plaything of the empires. The Balkans are Europe and you mustn't say otherwise or else I'll be cross. Frankly you could toss out Lithuania and I wouldn't shed a tear . . .

One is traying verey hawd. Efter awl. But, but, but, that's how I was brought up to pronounce "hard" and "all". I'm not posh. It's just how we pronounce it in the South. That's nothing to do with it, Ev. No matter how one pronounces "fire", it will rhyme with "desire", surely? Even in Sarreh -- "faaaaaah" and "dusaaaaaah". So what's the problem? Let's assume that a Latvian thinks that "fire" sounds like "fecktitude". Then the same Latvian will pronounce "desire" as "dezecktitude". See? [By the way, I don't believe that you pronounce "hard" as "hawd".]

True. But quite a bit of Russia in IN Europe. The bit to the west of the Urals.

I have genuinely no idea; I suppose I assumed it was either stern Northern Protestant like the Scandinavians or else Orthodox like the Russians.

..........and the big lady from Ireland got in! I wonder if she'll be duetting with the big lady from Iceland. I liked the comment from Paddy o'Connell about the lighting for the Irish one - "There's a ginger tinge around the whole stage" One step away from a diplomatic incident there Pat! The Totty from Croatia was given the elbow. One mention of bloody Beyonce for the woman who had her song choreographed by the wailing woman's dance trainer was enough to put me off that one. Lot's of long black hair around too.

But maybe he wasn't and I jumped the gun. Ennnyyyyywayyyyyyy (gosh I miss Costal) how you pronounce your vowels depends on where you were brought up (unless of course you're "putting it on"). I enjoy listening to all accents and it would be a shame if we all spoke the same. I pronounce "hard" as "haaaaaahd" (does anyone pronounce it as "hawd" ) but I pronounce all as "awl". I just thought: if you speak with a northern accent you're going to pronounce "haaaaaahd" differently to me anyway!

I just thought: if you speak with a northern accent you're going to pronounce "haaaaaahd" differently to me anyway! No. The same. It's words like "bath" and "but" and "book" where our pronunciation differs radically, I dare say. But I'm talking about rhyme, not accent. I love accents. I'll be in Landan tomorrow. On the Eye next week.

You mean to rhyme with moon? That's how I always think of a double "o" unless a word that I know is pronounced differently.
Hey oop rhymes with troop.

Won't winning this send Ireland spiralling into a double-dip recession?
Incidentally - are we meeting in the chatroom to share the experience?

I would dearly love it if we were but technical glitches mean I may only post on the computer if I am unable to see or hear the contest.
I am just away off the dungeon to set up the tiny little argos TV set and fiddle with the aeriel and stand in an awkward position until I get a fuzzy semblance of what may or may not be the Eurovision. Niamh is singing 10th. After I watch her nail it, I will run to the shops to buy something Irish in a heady moment of patriotism (I did a tour of the Historic Wicklow Gaol today and am feeling overly Irish rawr). Then I might waste some time on the boards telling people on JSG to grow up - until it's voting time.
