He refused to come out the cells on the first day of the trial as he didn't have cigarettes - so the jury and all the witnesses had to just sit and wait. The next few days he refused to wear his headset (to hear the translation from English to Slovakian) so that he could later claim it was not a fair trial as he hadnt' understood it. The Judge at one stage was considering the high-risk strategy of going ahead with the trial without the defendant understanding the evidence, but it seems he is now wearing his headset. The evidence seems to be the guy was drunk and horny, grabbed this 40 year old woman, dragged her into the park, stomped on her head several times so hard that her brain apparently 'turned round' in her skull, then raped her and left her to die. He then fled back to Slovakia. He has lodged a special defence that it wasn't him, it was these 2 Asian guys. The 2 Asian guys - who admit to having found the dead woman's car keys and purse in the street, then screwing her car and trying to use her credit cards to buy stuff online - say they had nothing to do with the murder & rape, but were just opportunist theives who came across the stuff in the street. Obviously the hope is that it will be sufficient to fog the evidence a bit and maybe put the jury off finding 'beyond reasonable doubt' - Remember, that's all the jury need - a reasonable doubt - to find the guy not guilty or not proven. Moira Jones's boyfriend gave evidence on the first day of hte trial - this was arranged as he had told the Crown he wanted to hear the whole trial, so he is sitting through all this, as are Moira Jones' parents who have come up from England for the trial. How anyone who loved the woman can sit and listen to the details of her death and remain strong I do not know. Verdict is not expected for a few weeks. It's all being dragged out. It's costing the taxpayer millions, but of course. And we haven't got to the DNA evidence yet. I was told (by a Polis - but they gossip too much and are only half-true) that the man who murdered and raped Moira Jones left lots of DNA evidence on her body and in the vicinity, so we'll have to see if it all ties up. A horrible business. |

I'm still trying to work out how there can be a trial of someone who was murdered in the park. You'd have to rope in the Lords Spiritual for that i suppose. Housey, yeah that was a bit oddly worded, but I do try to think of trials as being about the person who was murdered, rather than lionising the murderer. (Is that the correct use of the word 'lionising'?) I mean, we all know Peter Sutcliffe and Fred West (say)'s names, but how many of their victims can we recall? |

Presumably even a small amount of DNA will throw his 'it was those asians' defence out on its ears, I mean they obviously have the other guys' DNA to compare the samples. Suppose these two Asian blokes had been caught and admitted we stole her effects and car but found her half-dead but we never raped her, there's this Slovak guy was hanging about who'd believe them? It sounds like a definite need for DNA testing. It may not be perfect to convict from nothing but it's good enough to confirm when there are suspects already. Not that the Asians deserve much better than something mediaeval. fucking fillthy sub-animal shits all round <puke> For once, I should perhaps congratulate whatever Media gave you the information for not coming out with some headline I'd expect of the DrearyWail or Direly Suppress along lines of Asian thugs say 'We only stole but we never raped woman left for dead' |
