Sulphates are generally evil things that lend themselves to headaches when consuming wine. A shame, because this one is so light and fluffy you wouldn't have thought there were any. I used to be a main consumer of red wine. Good old Safeways used to have some very nice own label wines - all of which went out the window when Morrison's took over and ruined things. Lovely Merlot and Merlot Cab Sauv, and a delightful Corbiere which I used to make good use of. Best Beloved being allergic to the majority of red wine (instant headache) means I don't get the chance that often - but recently have had the opportunity to indulge in this one. It is very light and delicate, but full of fruitiness - but with no sharp tanninny after taste whatsoever! It's so easily drinkable that you're in danger of knocking it back like orange juice. Nothing nasty about it at all. (Despite the "Traces of Egg" mention ) They do a fruity white in the same range too. £2.99 from Aldi

£2.99.....
You can't get a bus fare for £2.99 here, never mind a bottle of wine.

They made such a fuss here about kids drinking cider and making it difficult to get that the kids all drink vodka now. More alcohol for your money.

Does it give you headaches though? I have to go quite far to find an Aldi so I've never shopped there. Lidl, yes.

S'funny, I've always looked upon Cider as a soft drink. On hot Summer days I might have a pint of it - but it always feels wrong somehow!

A pint of cold cider on a hot summer day is hard to better.

A pint of cold cider on a hot summer day is hard to better. And if you use your dinner money to get 3 litres of Frosty Jack for under £3 you can get absolutely smashed out your face. Result.

Bottle of supermarket own brand vodka for £7 or £8. Nice and affordable. PLUS children are still under the impression (as we were at their age) that your parents can't smell vodka off your breathe.

Or notice a difference in the way they talk to you - all confident and friendly and bright and breezy instead of the usual grunting. Fools.

On one under-age night out - before I knew a thing about anything - we bought sherry!!!! Sherry - wow I forgot that I once got drunk on sherry. What a disgusting thought. There's a stage in your life when you'd drink cough medicine in the hopes of an effect though isn't there.

I'm not a great fan of Martini - for similar reasons. Evil stuff. Though I don't mind Pimms. According to Mum, when I was about 3 or 4, I apparently got hold of a bottle of Benylin. I knew exactly what it was and knew that I liked it ;D Slept well that day apparently. Hmmmmmm, So that's how/where it all started.

It was stored up on a high shelf - responsible parenting and all that - and she decided she had a cough, got a chair, stood on it, got the Benylin and drunk it. I took her to hospital!!! I didn't just put her to bed!!! And they gave her charcoal and put her on a rocking horse until she puked. She always was reckless with regard to substance abuse . . .

Does she hate rocking horses now? And barbecues?
I shut Mini-Trub's head in car door when she was little and had to bring her to hospital but she was fine. They are resilient little creatures.
