I believe the technical term is "grasping at straws", and you can't make bricks without straw.. If you're desperate enough, you can enlist science to "explain" anything. I'd much rather believe that God, being omnipotent, just willed the waters to part, for a laugh, and then murdered the Egyptians on a whim, or because He got bored. Not that I believe any of it, mind. It's unlucky to be superstitious.

Or alternatively, maybe someone just sat down with his pen and paper (papyrus?) and made up a nice story. I'm not superstitious - but I do have a pair of earrings that I never wear now. The last two times I wore them something awful happened. The time before last, I had a car accident (quelle surprise) and the last time I wore them I was accompanying my mum to hospital for the results of a test - we were told she had terminal cancer, something we hadn't expected. O.K. so I am superstitious.
