Fabulous clip of Michael Aspel talking to Kenny Everett (and listeners) from the early days of Capital Radio - when it was still a proper radio station. Starts with a clip I remember him playing of a dreadful interview form the BBC archives uin the 1940's with a "man in Tunbridge Wells". Clip here

Kenny Everett was one of my favourites, especially on the radio. I remember when I first got married there used to be a programme on Capital Radio called "Kenny and Cash" (Everitt and Dave Cash) which was a carry on from their show on Radio London (pirate radio and better, IMHO, than Caroline)

At least Dave is still going strong! There's more Kenny bits - from Capital Radio days at www.thisisilr.co.uk/ In the Capital Radio>Audio Files section. Just run of the mill stuff in the "Airchecks" bit - but some sparks of genius in there too nevertheless. We were blessed with over 20 radio stations back in Kent. Trouble is by the mid nineties they were all clones of each other. Seventies and Eighties was fab though (for radio).

What do these stations put in their licence applications? "We feel that that there is room for a station playing a unique mix of records by Jamiroquai, UB40, Lionel Richie, Abba, etc: an area of music that we feel is under-represented on commercial radio."
