Two Kiwis. Two Apples. Two Pears and an orange. Lovely juice drink and a good immune system booster too.

I can't eat kiwi fruit as it brings me out in lumps on the mouth and an itchy throat. I like the taste though. Oysters - food of the gods. They are unlike any other seafood. The last time I had them was in Ireland and I ate a dozen as a starter. And I chew them - it's the only way to make sure they're dead. I seldom order them in restaurants though because, apart from the cost, they are an easy way to get food poisoning. Red cabbage I quite like done with cloves, sultanas and apple but you only need a small portion. I use cloves in Indian cooking too. White cabbage is nice with a sprinkling of caraway seeds and a knob of butter before serving.

I can't eat kiwi fruit as it brings me out in lumps on the mouth and an itchy throat. I like the taste though. I can't even touch an unpeeled kiwi-fruit. They give me hot flushes. Well, at least my skin reddens and sort of stings where touched by the evil growth. If I see them in a shop I feel threatened. It's not funny. And yet they taste fine, and I eat them if they're served. No. Never. Not nohow. The customary Guinness accompaniment helps, but not a lot. (But wait . . . surely if they're dead you wouldn't eat them at all?) OK. I'll give cloves another chance. LOVE pickled red cabbage, especially with a Cornish pasty, or a Lancashire meat'n'potato pie. I like white cabbage in cole slaw (from the Dutch koolsla). Can't stand green cabbage. But enough of this trivia. Today I'm going to make cauliflower cheese, which I really like but have unaccountably never attempted to make. Advice, especially about possible pitfalls, gratefully accepted. The lady in the shop, where the local caulis are always excellent, said she sometimes had problems curdling the sauce.

TRUBBS: DON'T READ THIS
The oysters are alive when they're opened but die pretty soon afterwards. I like to chew them just to make sure. Don't like the thought of swallowing one whole when it's alive.
"A loaf of bread," the Walrus said, "Is what we chiefly need: Pepper and vinegar besides Are very good indeed-- Now if you're ready, Oysters dear, We can begin to feed."
"O Oysters," said the Carpenter, "You've had a pleasant run! Shall we be trotting home again?' But answer came there none-- And this was scarcely odd, because They'd eaten every one. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Cauliflower cheese is delicious! I rarely make it though because Mr. E.'s not too keen and I can't be arsed just to make it for myself. Hint: Don't boil the cauliflower for the same length of time as you normally would - when you pour the cheese sauce over it goes back in the oven to brown and the cauliflower would overcook. I just make a basic white sauce with plain flour, butter and milk and add lots of cheese. A bit of parmesan on top is nice. We've got cauliflower tonight too with fish.

...she sometimes had problems curdling the sauce. You mean she wanted to? It's a fair cop, Jean. How would you phrase it? And while I'm here, will you be in the chat-room this evening?

I'll try.
We have to go to a housewarming party this evening, but these days I make my excuses and leave quite early. Besides I can't drink, as I'm on antibiotics.
(I'd probably say '...had problems with the sauce curdling'.)

There was a Radio-4 programme recently largely debunking the "I can't drink, as I'm on antibiotics" thing, which I have always ignored anyway (they don't give that advice in Holland in any case), to no apparent ill effect. Not that I'm giving you medical advice. Now that would be a more substantial excuse. As it turns out, I was interrupted by visitors and lost my concentration, so the cauli-cheese will not now happen until tomorrow. So it's baked beans today instead. And Beanz Meanz Pointz! What do Pointz mean!?

There was a Radio-4 programme recently largely debunking the "I can't drink, as I'm on antibiotics" thing, which I have always ignored anyway... It depends entirely on which antibiotic it is. I have had very serious warnings about this one, including from an obviously badly hungover pharmacist who said 'If you drink while taking these, you will end up feeling like me'.

Next time I need an antibiotic I'll test it with and without booze. Second thoughts, I won't.

What do Pointz mean!? Had the cauli-cheese yesterday, and excellent it was too, as well as being easier than I had expected. Doesn't often happen that way around. And yet, strangely enough, I swapped a gas bottle yesterday, and it was substantially cheaper than previous times. Uncanny.

My dentist prescribed some antibiotics for me when I had problems last year and the pharmacist made a point of telling me that under no circumstances should I drink alcohol whilst taking it. Said I'd be sick. I was most put out.

Mine were from a dentist too, so I expect it was the same antibiotic.
But I had the last one at lunchtime today!

There's a recipe for pickled red cabbage in the Observer Food Magazine today, but it's got cloves in.

There's a recipe for pickled red cabbage in the Observer Food Magazine today, but it's got cloves in. Nothing's perfect. Night night, one and all. I'm knackered, probably because of chilli depletion.
