While I was looking at some statistics for Essex, I noticed that one site says the population of Chelmsford is 110,000, and another says 35,000, both dated 2010.

Despite what lots of people think, parts of Essex are very pretty indeed, especially in the north of the county. I can vouch for that. I particularly like Mistley and the estuary there. And East Bergholt and Flatford, not far to the west. Don't know any other bits, except main roads and Harwich, which isn't exactly the tourist's dream. And I've been to Clacton, but only for lunch. While I was there I got talking to an old bloke who had lived two streets from where I was born, and knew people I knew. my old nan used to ave a caravan in a caravan park in walton on the naze, near clacton. As a result when i was a kid we would have holidays there in the caravan about 3 or 4 times a year, brillyant it was. havent beeen to walton on the naze for yeeeeeears.. must get over there sometime.

When our two were little kids we used to go to Frinton and Walton. Clacton for the amusements on the pier.
One particularly hot day, coming off the beach at Frinton, Mr. E., our daughter and myself were loaded down with all the usual stuff that you take on to the beach and we asked our son (then about 4) to at least carry his bucket and spade. After a few steps he whined "Ah can't carry deese fings". It's sort of been a family joke ever since whenever one of us is asked to carry stuff we consider too much.
Funny how family sayings start. Ooo, I think I'll start a thread on that.
