I watched this last night for the first time in several years. If anything it gets better each time I see it, and each time there's always something new I missed previously. Despite what some may think of Polanski as a human being, he was a genius film director and I think this film more than any other proves that. The cast are wonderful too, and Mia Farrow especially is superb. Certainly can't remember the bit where satanic chanting can be heard coming from the apartment next door as the young couple are in their kitchen. It's a film that keeps you gripped right to the very end. F**k The Exorcist...this is the greatest supernatural thriller of all time. Let's just hope they never do a remake!

I agree, Chris. A remake would be a big mistake. Mia Farrow was perfect as Rosemary and John Cassevettes was great as her husband. I also loved the "sweet" old couple next door (Ruth Roman and I can't remember the chap's name). Excellent stuff.
I read the book (by Ira Levin) before I saw the film and I remember throwing it across the room when I'd finished it because it had such an unexpected ending. I wanted it all nicely tied up and happily ever after!
If you want to read a really good book, "A Kiss Before Dying" by Ira Levin is excellent. Don't read any write-ups about it, though, because they tend to give away the twist in the story.

yeah a great film.. lurid colours that add to the qwuirky , seasick, uncomfortable atmosphere, a sinister, tension that builds and builds, as should be the case in all great horror films ( see also the shining) and beautifully, subtley acted. it is qwuite long, if i recall, but it certainly grabs your attention and holds it right to the end. great stuff.

What Polanski does is transport you into the film...he seduces the viewer...very few directors can do that...perhaps Spielberg and Kubrick too. I smoked ten fags whilst watching it last night. And kept hopping out of bed to the fridge for crabsticks and to make cups of tea.

Yes - a fag's not the same without a cup of tea.

Yes - a fag's not the same without a cup of tea. Very true Aubrey. Don't know about you but in a morning the first thing I do is put the kettle on...and it's usually coffee then...instant and two fags one after the other. Unlike you I don't have a half a dozen cats around my legs screeching for food at that time. But you can't beat a cup of tea and a cigarette. It makes life worth living. Cigarettes add to my creativity and imagination too when I'm writing. Without them I couldn't write a bloody word. I am of the firm belief that us smokers should stand together and rise up against the 'don't do that' machine which is the one thing I hated the last government for. Everyone dies of something.

Can I be arsed getting into a smoking debate?
Nah. I've done it too many times before. If you won't heed the wise words of an ex-smoker, then I can't help you.
Just remember the "everyone dies of something" when you're taking your last gasp in your mid 50s when potentially you could have another 20 years on this earth.

But when we die we go on living in a parallel universe Everso. According to some eminent scientists. So I hope to come out the other side a fine figure of health and without bipolar and nicotine addiction. oooooooooohhh...how interesting am I? (snore) (too late I'm dead)

Just like that bloke whose name I can't remember. Theatre critic. Liked a bit of... - oh, K Tynan. Emphesyma(sp?). But still couldn't write without a fag in his hand.

When I gave up smoking I started drinking more. Even a glass of wine wrecks an evening for me, which is probably why I don't watch as many TV movies as you people (or join in Friday night chat!).
I probably did watch Rosemary's Baby on the TV, but can't rememer if that was pre or post fags.
