it started up as i took son to school this morning with white little balls and has been wet snow, sleet and tonight it looks like its lying on the road. Its in-service day for schools on Monday,so if it gets worse over the weekend it will be the teachers struggling in to work.

The snow did fall in Glasgow after all, late last night.
Today looks like a beautiful day. The morning sky above the rooftops is beautiful.
I hope it won't affect our plans. We are meant to be going on the Falkirk Wheel today.

The Falkirk Wheel did not work yesterday - it was too cold and the mechanism was frozen or something.
Still, we had a nice day out having a pub crawl with my big bro and his wife in snowy Falkirk.
It's snoing heavily here now, and I need to go to Asda . . . shall just brace myself and do it I think.

Nah, I'm not going. The snow is still falling. It would be madness.
We'll have to make do with whatever's in, and my plans for a big cook-a-thon will have to go on hold.
While I could probably manage fine to walk through the snow to Asda, I might not be able to get a taxi to bring me back.

Shame! #dramaticmomentmissed.
I expect now would be a nice time to take any of the long distance lines out of Glasgow for a day, just for the hell of the scenery.

It's cooled down a bit in Essex and I've had to bring the deckchairs in from the garden. Still, we're thinking about a barbeque - even if I have to wear a cardigan.
O.K. I'm lying. We've no snow yet, but it's been rather bracing at about minus 2 with lots of frost, which makes even Essex look nice. We're venturing up to Edinburgh next Friday for an early Christmas with our son, so I'd appreciate you all keeping me informed on what the roads are like. We phoned him earlier and he said they'd had quite a bit of snow in the city and that all flights from the airport are cancelled (they have friends staying who are trying to get back to London).
We're all so British discussing the weather - I love it!

I went for an eight mile walk across the South Downs yesterday, and though the coastal areas were dusted in snow (well, three inches is a dusting if you live in Scotland or the east coast of England) the hills were quite clear.
Was out today with the dog; this morning down to the local park, throwing a ball in the snow. I was quite sure that our agility class would be cancelled as it is up a rural lane, but I phoned and it was totally snow free. So I scraped it off the car and lo: it was bathed in sunshine.
Surely the coast should be warmer than inland? Oh well...!

Been snowing heavily in Falkirk today. At one point both the M9 and the M80 were closed so Southern Britain was totally cut off.
Tree has been going around looking for patches of yellow snow then adding to them.
Trubble has just been going absolutely mental, running around like a dervish and chasing little snowballs.

According to the long range forecast, by the end of the week the Low that is powering the Easterly Winds is going to pivot upwards slightly (it's centred over Europe at the mo.) It'll mean that the winds will go around more to the NE and also bring up a small "Front" that will edge in across East Kent, Sussex and Southern parts of East Anglia. So your turn will come by the sound of it. Of course, anything could happen twixt now and then. Nice little new interactive weather map/gadget on the Met Office website.

I've just had a play with it and Sussex seems to be okay (bar snow and 30 mph easterly winds, but what are they between friends?), but Kent and Essex need to stand by for severe weather.

I was looking last night and it was telling me that it ought to be 'precipitating' where I was - ten minutes later it was.* * I think I might have said this already - can't remember

That's all we've had here, last night for the first time. And the boiler has developed a fault that means it refuses to turn itself on...
