I got a DVD set of all the programmes for Xmas (£15 from Play), and have been watching them.
I had forgotten how melancholic it is, and how nasty sometimes Rumpole is; and I always forget that Stinker Murdoch is in it.
Good stuff. Leo McKearn is wonderful; and everyone else is pretty good, as well.

I got a DVD set of all the programmes for Xmas (£15 from Play), and have been watching them. I had forgotten how melancholic it is, and how nasty sometimes Rumpole is; and I always forget that Stinker Murdoch is in it. It was on the radio recently (the classic Penge Bungalow Murders). Pretty damned good. The books are good as well. I don't think Mortimer was a particularly nice bloke, but Rumpole is probably as close as he got to having a nice side.

There are some great classic TV series knocking about on DVD, you can pick up every single episode of "Tales of the Unexpected" for under £45 at Amazon at the moment. Not really watched any Rumpole or the like, not my gig. AH
