I can't find everso's post about The King's Speech.
She - alone - has made me want to see it. Otherwise I would be too stupified by the combination of overkill on the topic (Upstairs/Downstairs - BBC Radio 4 plays - GoldenGobe etc - publicity-mania) and Colin Firth-o-mania (one can have too much of Colin Firth; yes! Darcy wading through the lake was fantastic but the part of the wader could have been played by a crash test dummy because all the fantastic was in the production and direction and that white shirt.)
Should he win the Oscar, Ev?
I watched the Escapist recently. If you haven't seen it, please don't google or you will get spoilers that will...er...spoil it. Best watched without any prejudicial nonsense. But definitely best watched.
It's an intelligent film, a prison-break story, with some of Britain's finest actors. They all put in Great performances, if you ask me, and the film has been under-awarded.
Awards
Wins
BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Film Performance 2008 (Brian Cox)
British Independent Film Awards 2008 Best Production Achievement (Adrian Sturges and Alan Moloney)
Nominations
British Independent Film Awards 2008 The Doulgas Hicox Award (Best Debut Director) (Rupert Wyatt)
Irish Film and Television Awards 2008 Best Film (Adrian Sturges and Alan Moloney)
World Soundtrack Award for Discovery of the Year 2008 (Benjamin Wallfisch)
Evening Standard British Film Awards 2008 Most Promising Newcomer (Rupert Wyatt)
Evening Standard British Film Awards 2008 Technical Achievement (Joe Walker)
London Critics' Circle Film Awards 2008 Filmmaking Breakthrough (Rupert Wyatt)
Anyone seen ''Neds'' yet?
I'm considering actually going to the cinema to see it but something about it makes me feel tired....
Peter McMullan.
Delinquents.
Scotland.
Glasgow.
All my favourite things but I worry that it will be crap.
I ask this question advisedly. Riot and SWL may have a particular disdain/love for it and may be able to save my ticket money (should I really spend it on Firth?) or lead me to an evening of cinematic delight.
