But I just might change my mind about AV. Why, Jean? To me it's very likely the last chance we'll ever have to change the existing rotten system. AV wouldn't be my first choice of another system <teehee> but it's all that's on offer this time, on account of Tory fear and wishywashy LibDemocracy. True to form the Tories are so scared of any electoral change that they've decided to lie about it (or just can't help it), and Nick Clanger has shit in his own nest and everybody else's. Look at any Tory leaflet — I hear they mostly contain the same lies. Listen to Haig performing another of his schoolboy rants, and tell me you could vote with him. And the BNP agrees with him and the Tory line. Case closed. VOTE YES!

I don't think there's much chance I will change it, especially the way 'No' campaign is exploiting what they claim are the high costs of it to appeal to people who need new hips.
The only fear is that AV is such a poor substitute, and a 'Yes' vote might send the message that I thought it was change enough.

Nice try GreenJean. I don't care for your man at Holyrood - plus, of course, I think you're socialists of a kind. So I won't be voting for them.

I read elsewhere that people are getting bogged down with the fact that you have to vote for everyone on an AV slip. You don't. Your vote will still be counted if you just list your first 3 favourites but no one else. Which makes it nice and simple really. You could still just put one vote if you wanted.
Just because we've got a crap coalition now, doesn't mean they don't always work. If you're able to add a couple of 'different' voices to the pile as well it ought to make the whole thing a tad more accountable.
Trouble is, the pigs always learn how to walk on their hind legs eventually.

Well, I've voted now, both at the church hall and here.
I needed three votes for this poll. As ever, I was left with no knowledge of who the local candidates were until I got my ballot paper. It informed me I had no more than two votes and not much choice. There were the two Tory chaps (I knew about them) a LibDem and a Labour woman who doesn't even live in my town let alone my ward. I voted for her out of spite; if she gets in, serves her right for volunteering as a paper candidate.
I voted LibDem as well, then remembered I didn't agree with some of their local politics!

I voted this morning. I'm on such a buzz.
I voted YES to AV, but nobody up here cares two hoots about that. Why should I care how we vote for the MPs in Westminster when my dream is that we don't have to vote for them at all, because we'll no longer be governed by them.
The vibe up here is amazing. The most unlikely people are voting SNP and laughing at the feeble, bitter, negativity of Her Majesty's Loyal Labour Party.
Fingers crossed . . but it looks like Alex Salmond is going to win by even more votes than 4 years ago. A second term for the SNP!!! This would have been unthinkable even 10 years ago.
I'm on a bit of a high tbh. I'm annoying everyone at work by being so hyper.
Even the Scottish Sun is backing Alex Salmond, with a front page that said KEEP SALM AND CARRY ON. (You see what they did there . . . )
Wish us Scots luck today! And to hell with the Brits!

I did my sacred democratic duty, and voted AV Yes, Plaid Cymru local, Plaid Cymru Welsh Assembly. Two of the other choices were Communist and Socialist Labour, plus Green, as well as the usual worthless rabble. I was tempted by the far Left, but not a lot. After voting, I had a long conversation with an old bloke in the carpark, a real local, born and bred, at least 90, I'd guess. During all that time, at least an hour, nobody else came to vote. Not one.

And you didn't think of voting Green? Shame on you!
As I posted elsewhere:
We are defending our first council seat. The LibDem leader is accused of electoral fraud and the local candidate is so embarrassed she hasn't even put her party's name on her last leaflet. The Liberals have a candidate too. The Labour candidate is a blow-in from another part of the city. The Conservatives rarely make double figures. There's even a UKIP candidate, whom nobody's ever heard of.
The polling stations are busy, our boxes bristle with poll cards. We hope it'sll be OK, but you can never be certain.
I've spoken to several people this morning who've voted No to AV in the firm belief that they were voting Yes.

I think the AV vote is going to be a resounding NO I'm afraid, based on what I'm hearing people saying and based on the bookie odds.
I'm not good at bookie odds, but it's something like 66-1 against, or something like that.

I had three votes on my local election paper. I voted two Conservatives and one UKIP.
So there.

And you didn't think of voting Green? Shame on you! I did consider it, even though I've had no communication whatsoever from the Greens. (Every other party standing has dumped a leaflet in my letterbox, including three (3) leaflets from the Tories (dream on).) But I live in Wales . . . therefore Plaid. It's a no-brainer, as the gibbering classes have it.

I voted NO. I had three votes on my local election paper. I voted two Conservatives and one UKIP. So there. Funny thing — to me, Nigel Farrago is the Great Satan (and UKIP is just a posh version of BNP plus a brain-cell or two) yet he talks a lorralorra sense about AV. Funny old world. (The BNP is dead against AV, of course. Goes without saying.)

I'm not going to the count as I'm due in hospital at 7.30 tomorrow morning, but I'm hoping I'll wake up to a triumphant text message.
(I hope not to be beaten by the BNP in the ward where I'm standing as a paper candidate, but it's not likely I won't be.)

I've NEVER velt a vibe like this for the SNP before. I've always been entirely realistic, cynical even, about the chances.
But then again, I've never seen a Labour Party so lacking in soul and mojo, and I've never seen such warmth for a serving politician (except maybe Tony Blair in the early days) as for Alex.
I'm not even drunk, and I'm thinking this, so there's a chance I might be right.
Or else the breakdown has finally happened.
I'm going to feel a right twat in the morning if I come on here and the SNP are not back in power.
