When I was a candidate at the 1992 General (UK) Election all the candidates and our agents got to go through all the spoiled/disputed ballot papers together to agree if they were spoiled, or if they were 'good for' a particular party. IIRC (big IF) ones marked 1, 2, 3, were considerd 'good for' the party they had marked as 1. I could be wrong but. I often am.

People who can't follow simple rules deserve no sympathy...Jesus, there are people braving bombs and bullets to vote in Iraq and the like, and some dick thinks he can put numbers on his paper and then moans about it even though he knew he had spoiled his vote. It's a pretty simple system that even I can understand, place a cross in box of the candidate you hate least and the job is done...FFS...some people! AH
