I didn't realise it was 'fortified' - I thought all the B vitamins occurred naturally in the yeast it's made of.
So all those stories about expats going mad with withdrawal symptoms weren't true?

Some of us go mad without withdrawal. My wife fell for it at the first fingerlick but it is, malhereusement, available only on the marché noir. (Undair ze countair)

A couple of crumpets with lashings of butter and a scrape of Marmite, plus a nice slice of strong Cheddar cheese - mmmmmmm.

Are pikelets the same as crumpets? I have a pack of '8 pikelets' in my fridge. But I think we'd had this conversation somewhere before.

Pikelets are a kind of thin crumpet. The best crumpets, I think, are by Warburton's. I've tried lots of other makes and they always seem a bit sweet. Warburton's don't.

And most supermarkets there sell it. It's a very civilised country. (No Vegemite, as far as I know. Further proof.)

And Warburton's crumpets don't fall apart on me, Arf. Must be the way you handle them.

I prefer to think of myself as Essex Muffin. There's no answer to that. Or, in other words, arfarfarf.

Warburton's are the best for everything.
I really like pikelets, but we don't seem to be able to get them round here these days.
I think the difference is that crumpets are cooked in a ring mould kind of thing, whereas pikelets use the same batter but are just poured onto the tray.

Upon arrival Oop North, it was interesting to discover another make of bread. It was only a little before The Tory Scum loving Warburtons went "National". At first there was a novelty value, but it wasn't long before we discovered that most of their bread was just wet and weedy. The sliced stuff just squashes flat when you try and spread stuff on it. There is a thicker sliced wholemeal which isn't too bad, but most of it is just rubbish really. The other disappointment bread wise was the lack of local bakeries. Gregg's obviously hit the North and Midlands first as it spread it's diseased tentacles across the country. Lancaster boasts about five of the bloody things. Thank Zark say I for our Organic shop and long live it's beautifully nutty tasting wholemeal bread.

I think you're harsh about Gregg's. Our local Gregg's sells lovely bread. Warburton's is GOOD!
Should I start another thread for a bread debate? Perhaps not - we've already got a dog bread thread.

I have to say that I've never knowingly purchased anything labeled Warburton's, on the grounds that I just assumed it was like WonderLoaf or Miranda or Nimble. I may well have to reconsider now.
