Odd when the death of a drug addicted singer appears to hog headlines more than the slaughter of 80 odd young people at a youth camp?
And the demise of the NOTW seems to have split the celebrity camp in two...half dancing on its grave...the other half wondering where their next photo opportunity is going to come from?
Death in showbiz however has always been a very good career move.
Even I had one of the posters of James Dean and Marilyn Monroe on my bedroom wall as a yoof...think I got them from Athena....those big posters you'd flick through in the shop in frames...and then you'd pick the rolled up choice from the pigeon holes beneath. Do they still do those? Does Athena still exist? What an odd shop that was.

Amy Winehouse. Very good voice. No detectable originality. Faux American accent. End of story.
A very sad story.

Not the 'great star' she's being made out to be though. The potential was there but you can't turn up at your own gig unable to hardly walk...The Stones, Bowie, Marc Bolan...you'd never find them giving a bad performance.

..and someone was comparing her to Janis Joplin. Sorry. But I never saw what all the fuss about Joplin was either. I thought she was bloody awful from what I've seen.

Winehouse was not headlining on my news. No-one was ever obliged to worship any individual singer. I found Sinatra boring and over-rated, Tony Bennet was far more talented but try to tell that to the flock!

Did you catch Friday's interview with Tony Bennet? www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b012lm4p"The crooners" weren't really my generation, but I was interested in what he had to say.

"I Left My Heart in San Francisco" always makes me tingle.
I also liked Spike Milligan's version:
I left my heart in San Francisco, I left my knees in old Peru. I left my little wooden leg Hanging on a metal peg, And my eyeballs I gave to you. I left my teeth on Table Mountain, High on a hill they smile at me. When I come home to you, San Francisco, There won’t be much left of me.

I feel sad that a 27 year old has wasted her life through drink and drugs, but I don't think she'll be remembered for long. How sad is that?

Amy Winehouse had the sort of gravelly female voice I find mesmerising. I heard snippets today if the song she recorded with Tony Bennet and I'm looking forward to hearing the whole thing.

Interesting voice, but the tacky "American" accent stops me enjoying it. (Don't know if she made a habit of it. I've only heard a few samples.)
