Anyone seen any of the nominated films? Anyone plan to? www.oscar.com/nominees/?pn=nomineesI'm tempted to see Milk. MILK As the emerging Gay Pride movement gathers force in the 1970s, it finds a champion and a public face in San Francisco camera store owner Harvey Milk. Leaving his closeted life in New York behind, Milk moves to California with his lover and soon turns his efforts to politics, campaigning for a spot on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors--a quest that will make him the country's first openly gay man to be elected to public office.

I does smack a little of just being a local interest story that got a bit big for it's boots?

I saw The Wrestler which I thought was really good.

The Wrestler's on but it doesn't sound very appealing, fights and fighters, yawnish... - that said, I refused to see Fight Club on the same sort of grounds so...
It came down to a choice of Frost/Nixon or Milk and as Frost/Nixon isn't on on a Sunday..it's Milk.
Patrick, it doesn't sound too big for its boots to me, first openly gay official in the US. France is crowing about having an openly gay official this week, 30 years later! (to hide the fact that the mixed-race single mother official has been sacked - oops, pardon my french, I mean sent to the EU - shows what Sarkozy thinks of the EU?).
Anyway, I will let you know if it's any good.

Have you honetly never seen Fight Club? It's not about "fighting" per se, it's about, well, I don't want to spoil it for you...just watch it, it's fucking boss.

Watched "No Country For Old Men" and "Taken" last night (God bless you Pirate Bay). Both really good films. NCFOM was a bit like Tarantino but with suspense thrown in. Taken was excellent in it's unremitting, merciless violence - a bit like the Bourne films.
Got the Dark Knight downloaded for tonight ;D

I keep meaning to watch that NCFOM, I hear that the book is just as good as the movie as well.

I does smack a little of just being a local interest story that got a bit big for it's boots? You might have been right afterall but I'm still deciding. It's one of those films that stays inside your head a bit. Sean Penn's acting was faultless though.

AH I saw it eventually and I loved it then. It's just, at the cinema, I didn't get that, I thought it was Rocky 17 or something. After I finally saw it I felt extrememly stupid for having made us watch the Blair Witch Project at the time.

(God bless you Pirate Bay). Pirate Bay never does anything for me. I click download and then it says downloading, then it laughs behind my back while giving me random numbers allegedly time left - 28.13, 12.36, 72.58 15.01 etc.

The girl in it needed a good slap, but the end bit when they go into the house and that chap is standing looking at the wall. Brrrr. It was really creepy. I like creepy.

Fight Club and NCFOM are amazing films, probably two of my favourite films of all time.
The Wrestler is also good, you might like it trubble karen did and it is riding pretty high on IMDB now.

I won't write it off then. This is maudlin to say but one of my favourite parts of the Oscars is the tribute film to all those in the industry who died during the year, I always get a bit emotional then. Blair Witch had its moments but mainly I remember being on the side of evil just wishing they would all get bumped off.

(Such is the shallow nature of the 12 year old news editors not knowing whose death is important and who isn't)

Blair witch was a cool idea, badly executed. And yes, the annoying chick should've been staked out as bait while everybody else made their escape IMO. BTW, The chap is standing against the wall like that because that's what the Blair Witch used to make her victims do before a-killing 'em...some folks miss that. AH

I find the first 30-60 minutes on most things can drag on a bit, then BOOM! 500kbps TORRENT! RAR! etc. It also depends on how many seeds and leeches are supporting your file...if you only have one or two seeds, then yes, it could take many moons to DL your stuff...just leave your utorrent on all day while using yer puter, you'll get your stuff sooner or later. (BTW, Pirate bay is just hosting and colating stuff, you aren't actually DL'ing from them...speed is down to your internet connection and the peers who are seeding the stuff). AH

Oh.
Sigh.
No, I think I have a very slow connection and that all sounds complicated. I think I will reject the computer generation and go back to my cross-stitch.

I only started noticing them as a good read because I read them to my blind cousin sometimes but they're usually very interesting indeed even if you're not that interested in the person.
