oscar.go.com/nominations/nomineesIt's that time of year again. Just as last year, all Stubbies will now undertake to watch at least one of the nominated films and give us their professional opinion on who should win the Oscars. In real terms, this means that Rob and I will each watch one film and suggest that the film we watched should win the award for Best Actor. I haven't seen any of the nominees but I might be persuaded to watch Precious or Julia and whatever. I suppose Avatar will win Best Picture?

Avatar is amazing, although the last third lets the film down a little. It is a really spectacular throughout and well worth watching in the cinema. District 9 is also good.

I'm sadly lacking these days as we seldom go to the cinema. We saw 2010 a few weeks ago, which had wonderful special effects, but I've forgotten the story already I still like the Oscars though for the dresses. I love to bitch about them and comment that I could have done much better with their money. What a cow I am at times (Although I'll always say if I like a dress - I loved that one Kate Winslett wore a few years ago when she was at the Oscars for "Titanic", the red one)

I particularly liked the way the main woman didnt seem to care her partner died at the end so that they could finish it with a romance with her ex husband. The effects were good though.

Yes, I'm inclined to agree with you. It probably was the most over the top disaster movie.
Good grief, I can't even remember the ending!

I'll shall patiently wait for Everso to catch up on all the Oscar outfits before unleashing any fashion critiques. As for the awards, I didn't watch a single nominated film for any of them so I don't seem to care.

They were asking people what they were wearing at the BAFAs the other day - I just longed for someone to say;
"Oh! This old thing? It was a bargain at Primark!
in 1998"

The director of Hurt Locker is a woman called Kathryn Bigelow, and the ex-wife of James Cameron.
Boy, I bet she feels good today!

A quick scan of the Daily Mail this morning leads me to think that the outfits are getting better - also the hairstyles. I rather liked the little black number that Carey Mulligan was wearing, although I don't think it should have been raised at the front as it gave the impression that her legs were a bit on the short side. Helen Mirren looked very elegant I thought.

Carey Mulligan's was nice - Not sure about James Cameron in his blue number - and who was that bloke with him?

I thought the style and taste levels were much higher than normal. Sandra Bullock's dress didn't come out in the photos as well as it looked in movement but it was my favourite - and there was a lot of competition. It shimmered like Ginger Rogers. It slunk across the floor dragging Sandra with it. Glorious liquid silver. Did you all note that lack of necklaces was the height of sophistication this year? I started that trend.

Did anyone like Jessica Parker Bowles or whatever her name is? Not that I am still bitter about her marrying Ferris or anything. I know she's cutting edge but I never like her style. This dress looked like something I made for my Sindy once, using an old lady's brooch and some loo paper.
