Paxman weak at the knees. Trimble and The Trimbettes with their new single 'Do know much about History'.

Corpus Christi Trimble! Did you hear the excitement in the man's voice? lol Yes! I hope they sack the man for his unprofessionalism! It wouldn't have happened in Geoffrey Wheeler's day!

It was a good contest and Ms Trimble is undoubtedly one smart cookie but for Heaven's sake does she know it!
I have to say she's the sort of person I would do anything to avoid sitting next to at a dinner party.

Me too.
Careful though! Arealfarmer is related to all these clever clogs.

Geoffrey Wheeler! Goodness me. Nostalgia time again. What is it with Stub Crouch jogging my memory so... it's like a little time machine.

We watch University challenge regularly, and occasionally I even manage to get the odd question or two right. But the acumen and knowledge of the teams is impressive, and should be applauded. It saddens me that there has been a seemingly concerted attack on Gail Trimble, whose "crime" is to be one very intelligent and well educated young lady. The miserable wretches who have taken part in these attacks are those to whom Jade Goody is a model. Envious ignorant oafs for the main part. Says it all really.

I didn't catch much of it, but I think it's a great shame when someone's knocked, just for being clever.
A girl in my year at school was always top in every exam, and the stick she got for it! She used to dread the results coming out each time.

So didn't Trimble annoy any of you even a little tiny smidgen?

As we answered rather a good percentage of the questions (apart from physics) I do not consider my husband and myself to be envious ignorant oafs. Nor do I think any "celebs" are my role models. We're rather long in the tooth for that sort of tommy rot. I have no problem with Ms Trimble being clever, as I already said. My irritation is with her smugness about it.

And did you decide that before anyone started writing and reporting on Trimble?
I did.
But I am an oaf. Worse than that, a miserable wretch!

Spare a thought for Gail. Wherever she goes now some horrid person (like me) will be waiting for her to make a mistake so they can enjoy a little gloat.
People clever than me will even be able to wallow in shadenfreude because they will be able to spell it.

The people who continue it past pantomime and beyond their sitting rooms are probably oafs. I consider this an extension of my sitting room.

it is human nature, trubs. Only years after sharing an office with a woman did I discover she had a First from Cambridge.
It was a fact she kept very quiet, she said. Sometimes she might let slip she studied at Cambridge, but would never confess to the class of her degree, because she knew that in her weaker moments some people would be thinking "Hmm! And she's got a first from Cambridge!" - even if they didn't actually voice it"

I came to that conclusion when I saw her in the earlier rounds, not because of any media attention. I genuinely admire real intelligence (and lets not confuse that with an ability to pass exams), but it was the insufferable gloating expression I couldn't take. However, I'm too outspoken and I'm sure she's a lovely person and a pillar of her community...

I rather liked Gail. She seemed a nice sort of girl and if she were my daughter I'd be bursting with pride. Funny how this kind of discussion would never even take place if we were talking about a man. I listened to her the other day on the radio and she seemed very pleasant and sensible to me.

She makes sure that credit is given to the team in the interview on "Breakfast" as you can see from the link. So in that respect she seems fairly self effacing. Mind you, my Dad went to Oxford, came out with a good degree (Don't know what score) He still maintained that Universities were a waste of space though. Life is what you make it and he didn't push himself enough - and the bugger passed that ability on to me.

I just watched the link, Pat. How can anyone say she's not a pleasant girl? I couldn't see anything about her to dislike.
