The more patriarchal the society, the greater the level of incest.
Some men seem to see sexual intercourse with their daughters as a form of sexual entitlement.
And I'll stop there before I go all Feminazi and start talking about prostitution, objectification, the myth of male sexual urge, etc. etc. etc.
The Austrians are a rum lot. I'll say that. As I think some racism-lite will probably win me fewer enemies than my attempting to discuss this case within the context of gender politics.

I had friends who holidayed there (Austria) every year, for years, they loved the place and the people. Yet I know others who have found them very rude and standoffish (not to mention it being rather expensive!) Any "analysis" welcome though - I included this today because it was breaking news this morning and doesn't seem to have been carried anywhere much. Having been quite shocked by John Fowles "The Collector" this story only left me dumbstruck at human kind.

i.e. They did everything that the Germans did, sometimes with greater ferocity, but somehow nobody blames them for it now.
The Jews in Vienna were persecuted with greater fervour than the Jews in Berlin (indeed, in the early days of Hitler's policies, many Jews fled Vienna for Berlin as it was safer there.)
In the room at the bottom of the Reisenrad (the big wheel made famous in some film or another) is a room, and around that room is a mural depicting the history of Austria from the earliest of times.
It skips over the 2nd World War period completely.

We had a summer holiday in Kaprun, near Zell am Zee, a few years ago. The scenery is stunning. I didn't find the people rude, although they weren't particularly friendly. It's definitely worth a holiday, though, for the scenery, and Saltzberg is one city worth visiting.

They'll be discussing in detail the precise nature of the tortures they would like the man to undergo, and in what order. (And then complain that his 'ooman rights' mean they're not allowed to do that.) |

There are boards with a more political 'agenda' than this one which become very heated indeed because sometimes people are WRONG. (You can usually tell who these people are by the fact that they are disagreeing with me.) How are you finding us? |

I've known children born to sisters, to their mothers and to their daughters. Nobody gives it a second thought and often arranges it with more planning than the SS put into their Ahnehrungsdeinst. It happens those children were not human. I take it the opposite way round, that instead of throwing our hands up in horror bewailing what has become of the human race it is what has become of the human race that brings this man and those like him (and some women) to prosecution for normal practice among animals. |

It turns out incest isn't as common in the animal kingdom as used to be thought. A documentary about Yellowstone Park a few nights ago said that a male wolf pack leader does not mate with his daughters, who sneak off to couple with a handsome stranger.
It happens with other types of pack animals too.
