You're missing the point
There are people out there who want to work!? OK?
These people have children Yes?
Oddly enough the cost of childcare is bloody expensive - even in the subsidized creches within college campuses themselves
It is this that is putting people off learning. Putting people off improving their lives in order to do the work that they want to do! Simple really. Not a specific "Do the job that they want to do" but "Do the work that they want to do!
Anyway - isn't a tad patronising to suggest that nobody is entitled to aim for the job that they'd really like to do? That what I thought this wonderful wacky world of equality in education and better access to higher education was all about! It's very unfair - and not particularly "Positive thinking" to stamp on somebody's ambitions. OK - We are not talking about a job in Daytime telly - 'cos anybody can get that these days - just the simple things in life - Being a Nursery School Teacher - something like that! Funnily enough - not everyone is a waster and quite a few out there do want to improver their lives Given the chance!

Patrick, I only asked a question ! But as it is something you obviously do feel strongly about - around here people get the jobs that are going!
As for education - well, I wouldn't encourage anyone to go for that unless the course fees and a bit of a grant was provided. There's too many people leaving with good degrees, large debts and no job; trust me, I've met some and it is no joke. That may include people trained as nursery school teachers, I suspect, though not secondary school science or maths teachers!
I think I'm right in saying that some training provided free in shortage skills does involve free childcare - I'm not sure about teaching though.
