I was reading in Private Eye today that the Department of Transport is having to buy new Diesel trains for the use of the Operating companies, because the operating companies and the companies that buy the trains to lease to the operating companies won't!
The reason (allegedly - and the way I understood the article) is that they don't see the point in buying trains that run on a fuel that might not be around in 30 years time!
Equally intriguing is that because of the financial problems at the moment, investment in the railways is being cut so that a running programme of electrifying railway lines is being cut as well. So does this mean that in the future these lines are going to be cut too? Leading to more chaos on the roads?

I don't pretend to understand everything about using electricity to power cars and trains, but I like the idea. The place will be much quieter won't it?

I heard Boris talking about electrically powered cars this morning on Radio Four. Now I LOVE the idea of that. I wouldn't even mind if my car didn't go very fast. Just so long as it was nice and quiet and I didn't have to turn up the CD player so I could listen to my Who and Kinks CDs.
Everso - unselfish to the last.

I reckon that the boy racers - deprived of loud and throaty exhaust notes will find some way around it! You'll have cars with speakers on the outside banging away to the latest toons! KnowhatImeeeninnit? Oh dear! How old am I?

Did you ever put a piece of tupperware through the spokes of your bike wheel with a clothes peg? Well my advice would be to begin setting up a business that can provide your electric car with "Real Car Sounds"! You could have - I don't kno; MG - Triumph TR3 - Rover V8 - Spitfire Plane! Anything that makes a cool noise really! Barry White? who'll say "Yeah! We've got it together baby!" Every time you put your foot down! I think electric cars are going to be very noisy indeed!

Tuppaware??? You were lucky, we had to use lollysticks. Didn't last long did they! We had stacks of 'em - and old ice cream tubs that we used for storage etc, so a bit of tidying up and voila - one ice cream tub going spare!
