Two episodes watched and I love it---I can laugh when I want to,and did,no canned laughter at all
I hate canned laughter-which rules out most `comedy`

Stephen, I'm certain that the first six series were done in front of a live studio audience, so the laughter was real...it's weird watching it without laughter IMO.
I missed last nights anyway, I will have to wait until monday to watch the last two episodes now.

I watched a bit of one of them last night - where they end up in the TV shop. I thought the script could have been "tighter."

Here's how it is: It's fairly dodgy. It always was. You takes your laughs where you can find them. There were a couple of guffaws in there, that's better going than many other comedies made in the last couple of years. There seem to be a lot of in-jokes/references. I don't want to spoil anything for people like Alph who were watching SuperNanny instead so I'll put the rest of my observations in a spoiler tag. Is it only me and Stephan who have watched the 2nd episode? la la la -- just filling a few lines because the spoiler tag always shows a little of its contents before closing when you use the 'last posts' facility. Hi Alph. I am not spoiling it for you. La la la. Right that should be enough. What was all that stuff about Mike Millerman or whats-his-name - the salesman with the small penis - do we think that Mr Naylor had a problem buying a TV set recently? ;D And I loved all that TV talk - is it HD Ready? Well, it's a version of HD Ready - classic. What do we think about the grubby product placement - dvd out soon - there was a 27 July date - action figures available - was it just a big in-joke? I like the nice touch about Chloe Annett and showing her magazine article with her children.

Indeed, I have actually heard people moaning about "continuity" like RD was always tight with these things. Is it only me who remembers that Lister had his Apendix out twice? Jeez!!! There is a school of thought that every series of RD is set in an alternative reality anyway...which would explain why timeframe, the crew and size of the "small rouge one" changes from episode to episode. Also heard people moaning and saying that Doug Naylor "doesn't know his characters" because "lister would never iron his clothes" (even though he is seen ironing in series 2). Some people have just been waiting to have a pop at this...morons. AH

Tell us about the festival Well there was a whole bunch of stalls in the market square. This is normal for what they expect to be holiday weekends. I prefer the ones where there are so many stalls, they also use the space in front of one of the colleges Some local singers on the stage, not very interesting. Most people just seemed to walk past them to find one of the stalls selling coffee (boy, do Finns like their coffee!) There were some easter (pääsiäinen) decorations, and some kids painting eggs in one of the nearby cafes. No shops were open today (illegal) At times like that, I wish I had a laptop with wireless

Sounds nice. What are easter decorations in Finland like?

A lot of greens and yellows mostly, occasionally a bit of red. Ribbons tied around a few things. When decorating indoors, use coloured eggshells and appropriately coloured flowers, too.
I thought stalls were subject to the same trading laws bit maybe they suspended them to try this thingy out

There's a website somewhere that lists all the continuity problems with Father Ted, I think I reprinted some one time. That's such a weird thing to do, the set house changes all the time - it's part of the fun. One of the reasons the later Red Dwarfs fell down IMHO was the sharpening up of everything from film quality to special effects. It should be hand done with errors, that suits the whole lampoon ambience of the show and for goodness' sake the entire genre is about suspending belief. These moaners should lighten up.

I like the twee sets. Series 8 did have some good moments..."Nicey" Ackerman was excellent, and the donut boy "Captain Hollister" returned...Mac McDonald is a legend IMO. (there is a list of RD errors out there by the way, but it's not done in a picky kind of way) AH

Yes, nitpicking is sad. Let's discuss what went wrong with the Kochanski character.

Let's discuss what went wrong with the Kochanski character. Oh Gawd, that character was so unfunny. The entire "humour" around that character was based around making the other characters look stupid and small, and insulting them. Erm, the point was we KNEW all of that, we didn't need an arrogant monkey TELLING us such whenever it happened

Yes, nitpicking is sad. Let's discuss what went wrong with the Kochanski character. Konchansky wasn't bad perse, it's just the fact that her introduction made Lister brush up his act and wear like "clean clothes" and not be a "curry swilling slob" who loved sugarpuff sarnies and other gross stuff. I think they introduced her to "broaden the appeal" because they were angling for the RD Movie at the time. AH
