Just thought I'd put the thought in your head! Just had some for lunch! YUM! No, sorry, digestives are a SWEET biscuit. Definitely not for cheese. I like a water biscuit. I suggest a poll.

We had crumpets for lunch.
Stir fry tonight.
There's nothing like a traditional Sunday dinner.

Ah! but it's the contrast between the sweetness of the biscuit and the savouriness of the cheese that makes all the difference! Talking of which - I wonder why they stopped making "Wholemeal" Digestives? Remember you used to get both? Wholemeal, Sweetmeal and Chocolate.

I don't feel strongly enough on the issue to vote in the poll, but I do wish to side with Patrick against Everso on the question of cheese on digestives. It's v. nice.

Look, this poll is deeply deeply flawed without more options.
With all three.
With or without all three.
With wine.
Free tasters in the supermarket.
On pizza.
Deep fried in breadcrumbs and served with a coulis.
etc.
I am too distressed to vote.

No, it is a good poll. Given the choice, I'm not sure whether I'd plump for crackers (water biscuits) or digestives.
It might depend on the cheese. "Forrin" cheeses are quite sweet anyway so better with crackers, but a bit of stilton or proper Wenseydale (not supermarket rubbish) do go well with a nice digestive.

I don't usually buy Wensleydale, but for Mr. E's birthday party recently I bought some for the cheeseboard (mainly so it would give me the chance to say to everyone "More cheese Grommit"). I got it at our local Somerfields . Anyhow, it was utterly tasteless and I was deeply disappointed. Where can I obtain proper Wensleydale?

It has a mild flavour and I used to like it a lot but I think I now prefer stronger stuff. We've got a "proper" cheese shop round the corner, but when I did the Red Leicester test (see previous thread) , Jack said there wasn't much between that and Sainsbury's "taste the difference" kind. I might do another blind tasting - but not now, for Jack and I accidentally doubled up on cheese buying this week and we are munching our way through supplies - no Wensleydale. We are short on biscuits so I shall mull over your poll at lunch. There are usually a Hovis type digestives in those mixed cheese biscuit boxes. but they always include crackers that really should not be eaten at all with cheese - salty ones, or flavoured with celery or cheddar. ~~~~~shudders at the thought~~~~~~

I'm pleased to note that the squabble over whether one should be eating cheese with digestive biscuits is still continuing. Digestive biscuits should only be used for dunking in tea.
