I wasn't feeling too bad this morning. The very wretchedness of existence hadn't quite registered as it sometimes does of a morning. I even found a new (Classic Car) message board that I hadn't come across before. Unfortunately, one of the first tales I read was thisNow I'm bouncing along the bottom again.

I can never understand why people get so upset by a tin box. Sorry, but the car didn't look that special to me, and I can't see the point of something that probably has to use lead petrol and does 20 mph on a good run unless it is very very special. About eight years ago I had an old car that I wanted to replace. Now, I hate selling cars, and it was at the kind of age where I would have had to advertise it privately. I lent it to a friend while I was on holiday and it got stolen on the day I returned home. She was mortified but I was delighted. A kind police constable called round and said she had found the car damaged, but not to worry. She was sure it could be repaired.... Fortunately the insurance company thought otherwise and gave me the cash towards another.

It was a particularly rare tin box, that's all! The fellow had restored it and put a lot of workinto getting it into the fine fettle it was in. Time and Energy and Effort = A far greater deal than anyone can imagine. The parts for that are particularly hard to come by too. One could venture that it should therefore had been locked away - I presume he did have some security, but it means little your average vandal. I agree with some of the other posters there - looks like they suffered for their mistreatment of someone elses property - and serve em right!

The photos the guy took of his wrecked car just sang out with his agony and pain.
But I do feel sorry for the guy who knicked the motor. I'm sorry, but all that blood everywhere. I can't help being soft.

Like Christine it seems like the car will live again! with the help of another of course 1+1=1 etc.
The DAF didn't have a lot of oomph, but the larger engined ones were rally champions in the 70's and they had a faster 0-30 time than any supercar! It's just after that that it ran out!

The UK had it's own "Christine" in the shape of the Humber Imperial. I tried to get one for my wedding - shared a few emails with a nice enough chap - then all of a sudden heard no more from him! Time got on and by then had to make do with something else. Should have gone for a moggie really. By the time of that let down though Best Beloved was giving me earache over it!
