Is it wrong that I find Boris . . .sorta . . . sexy?
I don't usually go for posh boys, but that natural superiority they project, that sunny-side-up approach, that lack of dark self-analysis that plagues middle-class boys . . .

I was like Boris once. All wild hair and unpredictability! <sigh> Fond memories.

I imagine most of Paxo's details are probably "out there" somewhere anyway.

Boris is a twat. Bus fares in London up 20% next year. Mind you, most bus fares across the country have risen disproportionately, Stagecoach for instance have long been cited as having some of the most expensive. Of course it may not have happened under old Ken - he was always one to support the bus. "Fare's Fair" etc.

Boris is a twat. Bus fares in London up 20% next year. As are fuel costs . A good proportion of which is the increase in fuel tax - go figure .

Bus fares across the country went up because they were deregulated by M Thatcher.

They're crap in Lincs.
In Lincoln - quite a big city - you can't get into the town centre after 7 on week days, or at all on Sundays.

The bus services in country areas ( here ) were crap before Mrs T , but now quite good . There are now buses after 6 at night ! Council subsidy - If the cuts come thick and fast - it may not last! A good example is when the last round of cuts came in the mid 90's and (for instance - indicating that all parties are the same) whilst the Lib Dems Nationally were preaching about the importance of public transport - the Lib Dem County controlled councils were cutting back on rural bus services! I think if you want anything decent locally - try and get a University in town! - All the buses here start and finish at the university - the relationship with the council seems to be that if the Principal wanted one to drive up his backside he'll get it! Put it this way - a large majority of people live in the North of the town - and crossing the river to the South and the station via one road bridge is what causes most congestion - but when it comes to putting on a direct bus to the local train station who gets it? The Uni-bloody-versity of course! Bugger the rest of us. Most bus services are heavily subsidised by the council - except the main routes that are creamed off by the big boys - it's how Stagecoach et al have made their profits. That, of course and buying up the council bus companies at rock bottom prices. Integration of companies have also helped kill off services - when Two companies in a town merge one of the depots will go - The old Nationalised services would have depots at regular distances between towns (possibly because buses weren't as reliable/needed more maintenance) With rising property prices in the eighties, and merged services - these additional maintenance depots were the first to go - accordingly some services that were based on those depots disappeared too. (at a guess). I would hazard a guess also that in areas where traditionally people relied more on public transport, occasionally those old routes still exist. People complain about services round here - but we have been out to visit more places by bus than ever we could have dreamt of seeing when we were down South. Sheer luxury! In the middle of our old town on a Sunday there was one bus an hour going East-West and one bus an hour going North- South (and the South point was us). Where I am today, on a Sunday there is one bus an hour on the road above me - two buses and hour on the road at the end of mine and one bus an hour on the road a short walk "below" where I am! I have never felt so free in my life! This, in a town with a similar population to that one down South.
