Old news to some, but the first of our digital swithover changes happened last night. The TV happened to be on at the time, and almost as if Fred had to unplug the lot before he could reconnect everything ALL the channels disappeared! We were on digital at the time, but when I looked nothing was available! All back to normal this morning of course, but I rather like my image of little Fred frantically trying to reconnect everything, surrounded by a mass of cables and plug sockets.

Our digital reception is dreadful. We recently bought a new t.v. (we had a freeview box with our other one) thinking things might be better, but it's still awful.
Sometimes all we seem to be able to get is BBC1 and 2. Mr. E. is getting seriously pissed off with my moaning.
Apparently, we don't go completely digital for another year or so.

My Parents (In the "Borders" region) couldn't get digital stations very well before the switch either, it seemed like they might need a new aerial, 'cos sometimes they had channels, sometimes they didn't. When you do get switched over the first time you lose BBC2. This is because they are then sending the digital signal down through the space where BBC2 was. This ought to mean that if you got BBC2 on "analogue" OK, you should (finally) receive the digital channels OK. Once the switch came, parents had no problem picking them up.
I know it won't be the same transmitter necessarily, but Best Beloved's Mother in Norfolk has a hell of a job getting the digital channels as well.

Interference on digital always looks and sounds so horrible. Then again, videos we have from before we got Cable are all ghosting - double images. You kind of got used to it, but it looks dreadful now.

and there was me hoping for some happy tales of satisfied customers. our switch happened in may - but we were too busy to watch telly so we didn't bother sorting it out. several months later i got some experts in to sort out all the tellies. the kitchen telly is now a mess - there is no rhyme or reason as to how you find a channel now.....it's pot luck. this was on a wednesday. and it was all change again on the Friday! now i keep getting a message telling me to contact sky for a new something or other card i have also lost a channel BBC 3/4 ? i am not a happy bunny, but too lazy to do anything about it.

......and there's Sky advertising that they are unaffected by it all!?
It annoys me that you can pick up a digital box for £20 or less - but it will generally be one that needs a TV with Scart leads. The only (so far) box I've seen for non scart tellies is the "TVOnics" one which Argos has for £37! Unfortunately the Philips Box I've just replaced doesn't have an RF modulator in so it relies on scarts too. I'm sure there are other non-scart boxes out there, but I haven't looked yet.
(I've got a 22 year old Ferguson portable upstairs I want to convert)
Did anyone hear the report on the switchover where folks have got their antique 405 line tellies working with digital! Just goes to prove that nothing is made obsolete if you make the effort!

Sky were just sending out new cards that you put in their box. As far as Iknow it didn't have anything to do with the digital switchover.
