Vice Presidential? 'Fraid not - I don't think I could watch that sober - and we're doing this non-drinking thing at the moment. It hurts. Hope Palin gets slaughtered! (Dreadful Woman) I've absolutely no idea who's up for the other one? Did he ask Hilary?

According to Woman's Hour she did well, but Hughie there also scored points by not being patronising as George Bush Senior made the mistake of doing, years ago in similar circumstances.
I just get the impression that she's a bit of a Violet Elizabeth Bott. Perfectly sweet and charming in public but a complete bullying bitch behind closed doors. I find her rather offensive really.
Edit: Saccharine! That's the word for her! Imitation sweetness that leaves a bitter taste.

She is being described as having done well only because expectations were low.
He was streets ahead of her and it's true that he was quite gentlemanly, probably aware that he could be attacked for being otherwise, whereas she, although polite enough, wasn't as guarded when talking about him.
He spoke with ease and intricate knowledge on all the issues whereas she struggled with some of them and at one stage 'lipstick on a pig' popped into my mind because she is very hardline, came up with quite a few repeated mantras and called Madmaninadinnerjacket 'insane', which I thought didn't bode well for future negotiations with him even if the Americans might have liked it. She came across to me as a warmongerer (which is probably unfair, maybe I should use a different word) and she gave this horrible speech about America being a shining beam of light in the world so that we can all admire America and aim to be it.
Shiver.
No, I really don't like her.
Biden won the debate but he isn't being given the spoils because she didn't muck it up...if you see what I mean.

Very good. ;D
But I wouldn't say she was that sweet even at first. Much more like an unripe pear or somet.

Shiver. Well, according to some of the stuff I've read she really is somewhere between GWB and Attila the Hun when it comes to international diplomacy - or any other diplomacy for that matter - so you're not far wrong. I keep trying to think of a good side - like her "inexperience" should be a boon because she hasn't been - or shouldn't have been hardened by the political world. Trouble is, she does seem to have almost been bred for this job and it's difficult to perceive that she has any life outside of it! In an Automaton sort of way. Margaret Thatcher used to stage stuff to make her look human - but I think even she managed to do it convincingly. I wonder if Ms Palin could?

Harry Shearer (voice of Ned Flanders, Smithers, Burns and other such wonderfuls) reckons she got all her political mantras from Beauty Pageants. It's plausible.

Simon Schama was asked in this week's Radio Times:
"Is Sarah Palin the clear water that helps voters distinguish between the two candidates?"
"She could be. It's very much up to the Democrats to show the voters just how seriously to the right Sarah Palin is. She makes George Bush look like Karl Marx. John McCain was famously encouraging a more environmentally responsible policy - until he hooked up with Sarah Palin, who is absolutely the incarnation of "Drill Baby! Drill!". "
