Just as I was heading for beddies last night, I saw that Channel 4 had this on! Just when you think there's no sport left that hasn't been snapped up by Sky! Yet they stuck it on at some peculiar hour of the morning! I wonder if someone at the channel would really like to emulate the Golden Days of "World of Sport" where things like the London Bus Grand Prix was a regular event!
As for this - well, what a load of "Tossers" (geddit)? The shoving someone out of a ring on the end of a telegraph pole was quite good too - it certainly put the Canadians and US in their place.
Ch4 are missing a trick there - instead of the teen TV T4 they could so easily liven up a Saturday with some obscure sports! After all - there must be plenty of popular stuff out there that Murdoch hasn't got his hands on!
Bat and Trap Anyone?

The thing about Highland Games is that . . Well the point of Highland Games is They are not to be taken seriously. They are an embarassing and slightly tacky way to impress American tourists and get them to spend money. I'd ban them.

Mind you - it must be a social service for ex rugby players by the look of it! What else could they do otherwise? ;D

What else could they do otherwise? ;D I expect once their rugby-playing days are over they do miss the homo-erotic nature of their hobby, so maybe you're right. (Has anyone ever met a GAYER bunch of straight men than rugby players? They are all obsessed with each others' genitalia and bottoms.)

What sort of games are in these highland things? Would I be any good at them? I'm rubbish at most sports. I think I only know of Tossing the Caber and Swinging Something...a dead cat?? Btw- I can access the boards again.

Rugby is a game played by gentlemen with odd shaped balls.

Btw- I can access the boards again. A lot of pushing and pulling and tossing by the looks of it! What happened? I could post on some proboards, I could see some proboards but not post on them, I could not even see others. It was proboard mania. Then I flushed and everything is rosy again.News Update: Oh ha ha very funny, computer gnomes. I can't see the harbour anymore AGAIN. I am returning to my theory about the fairies. It's odd that I am only allowed certain proboards on certain days but maybe it's connected to the credit crunch and rations have been brought in without me realising. ;D I don't know why I put a grin there, I suppose to show that I am not really smashing my computer with a hammer but it is tempting, ya hear that, gnomes? Vair bloody tempting. Pulling tractors with bare hands etc? Pushing people over? Tossing salads. It's all good. I think that instead of being banned they should be mandatory and international. Or is it like Gaelic games here and forbidden for other nations to compete? Quite a handy way to remain world champions, isn't it!

We played Shinty at Primary School. Of course, it had none of the blood letting of real shinty - otherwise you would have read about it in the paper "Broken Legs Aplenty in Primary School Sporting Massacre" or similar headlines. Presumably, we called it that to distance it from Gurly Hockey.
