Whether we put the clocks back or forward is an old chestnut - Jersey though is having a referendum on adopting European Central Time over GMT/BST!
"Time-zone referendum is under way
People in Jersey are taking part in a referendum to decide whether the island should adopt Central European Time instead of British time.
It would mean moving the clocks forward one hour, bringing the island in line with its continental neighbour, France.
In order for the referendum to be passed at least 52% of islanders need to vote in favour of it.
The vote is taking place alongside Jersey's senatorial elections, with 21 candidates standing for six seats in the States.
Four parishes will also be electing constables. Polls close at 2000 BST. "
I've always thought we could be more flexible with our time zones. It seems daft that you fly an hour East and change to European time - but fly an hour West and you stay in the same zone!
Ditto North and South.

Apparently, this country didn't adopt a single time zone until the advent of trains. Think how confusing it would be if this country had several time zones! It only takes a few hours to travel from East to West nowadays - unlike years ago when travelling by stage took several days. Then, I guess, differing time zones weren't important.

I'm surprised that Scotland hasn't had a discussion about it. I expect they'd benefit from a breakaway from Southern time! There are other countries that could benefit from a shift - When we went over to Cyprus at the end of May the other year - whilst it was still lovely and light til late in Blighty - it was quiet a surprise to see the night making it's way across the sky towards us whilst on the plane - and when we touched down in Paphos it was dusk like at eight. The thing is though - they have plenty of gorgeous sunshine at 3am in the morning they could utilise! (It was usually the nicest time for sitting on the balcony)
