Url length limit in proboards, it is annoying. This one works: tinyurl.com/yzn38ldThe answer is probably yes. I love Brass Eye and liked The Thick of It so I am a snob .

OOOOH dearie me! this bit made me LOL out aloud.. 'By contrast, many middle class interviewees vehemently objected to low brow comedians and referred to their fans as “ignorant”, “bigoted” or “thick”. The study quotes one interviewee, who said: “All I would need to hear is ‘I went to see Roy Chubby Brown last week, it was magic’ and I would want to glass them. “It is the absence of sophistication in all of it.” ..because 'glassing' people is oh so sophisticated...

the research is a loaf of cobblers as far as i can tell..going on what is claimed in the article. If anythink, the research shows the researchers are guilty of class stereotyping.

Yeah that was my conclusion too, especially based on the aforementioned quote. BTW still go watch Brass Eye in case you havent seen it already.

Not sure 'snob' is the right word as I get just as irritated by Fry and his QI buddies as I do by anything ITV puts out (though I'm not sure ITV do comedy anymore...with the exception of Harry Hill).
Mock The Week is good sometimes, but Russel Howard and Andy Parsons I find about as funny as a kick in the balls.
But this is an excellent topic..I'll have to think about it some more.

I enjoyed the Gavin and Stacy series, just because i have not seen a recent well written sitcom in ages. The story lines are funny and the actors very good.

AH Who the feck would admit to being middle class?! Gordon Brown, that's who. He seems to think it's a badge of honour, poor misguided simpleton. Years ago I met a bloke -- friend of an acquaintance -- named Alan Partridge. I thought he was kidding, but he wasn't. He'd never heard of the Real Alan Partridge, or even Steve Coogan. I definitely thought he was kidding then, but he still wasn't. And his pal was the same. British, and never listened to Radio-4! AHA! This was when AP was only on R4, where it all started. Just like tHHGttG and the original ideas for Brass Eye, Little Britain, HIGNFY, etc, etc, etc.

Just hope Ed Reardon never gets a TV makeover. I wouldn't put it past those 12 year olds at the BBC.

Can't stand the likes of Roy Chubby Brown but love The League of Gentlemen. However, Roy CB has appeared in the LOG and in fact his real name is Royston Vasey (the name of the town that it's set in).
I loved Fawlty Towers way back when, and I enjoy Gavin and Stacey (mainly because Alison Steadman's depiction of an Essex woman is so bloody accurate). It's set in Billericay, which is quite a nice town but too near Basildon for comfort - although it couldn't be more different.
I enjoy QI and I like Stephen Fry, Alan Davies etc. They did a 'best of' the other evening and I loved it. I also like Ricky Gervais, especially The Office and Extras.
Slapstick, especially Laurel and Hardy, always makes me laugh out loud, as do the drunken aunties or fat geezers falling over on You've Been Framed (much to Mr. E's disgust). Sorry, but I can't help laughing - I have a cruel streak in me. I suspect Trubbs would agree with me here (not about the cruel streak, but about laughing at people falling over).

I listened to an episode of "Ed Reardon's Week" last night, never heard it before, but I liked it so much that I bought the company downloaded the entire 6 seasons. Most BBC comedy TV makeovers are pretty good to be fair..."Alan Partridge", "People Like Us", etc AH

Of course his first ever incarnation was on "The Day Today". AH

Never heard of RCB, never seen G&S (had the impression it was set in Wales) but anything AS does is first class. Can't stand Gervais. I've got a 1960s book about brewing beer somewhere, written by somebody from Basildon. In the blurb they call it Boozledon. Hoho. In Holland I worked with a Welshman from Harlow for a year or two. He sounded like an Essex man from Wales. Lives in Vienna now.
