do you consider yourselves to old for this? or do you enjoy the variety and interesting tastes in music you children/younger co workers enjoy? I like radio1 and 2 i like to keep up with whats popular. My sons of 22 and 14 like Pendulum and i must admit i quite enjoy listening to them as well.

Once I was out of the 1970s I kind of lost my way. Now I never listen to music on the radio and only occasionally play my CDs. I feel a bit ashamed really because I couldn't tell you what's in the charts (or, what's number one in the hit parade, as we used to say) and I have no idea who Pendulum is. There were a few groups during the 90s that I quite liked - Blur and Take That among others - but I really could take or leave them. Nowadays I'm completely out of the loop. However, I am very well informed as regards Cbeebies.

Best Beloved had the highlights programme on the other night. I commented elsewhere that someone ought to tell Florence Welch that shouting is not singing, and poor old Kate Nash looked awful - and sounded even worse. Yet she can be quite tuneful live - unlike Flo. Why is there this fashion for screeching and wailing women at the moment! Talk about "Rise of the Banshees"! It's like they've had stem cell treatment from Kate Bush's DNA!

It all seems ghastly.
But I'll bet I don't dislike the stuff played there as much as the audience would dislike the things I listen to; my tastes are a lot more rowdy.
(But, I am really pleased to have been moved to a part of the dialysis unit that doesn't have a radio in it.)
But I think that popular music - IE, music in the charts - is a lot more varied and generally weird that it ever was in my day (70s 80s).

I'm pleased for you Aubrey. There's nothing worse than having to listen to music you don't enjoy. I always feel it's a bit of an imposition, being made to listen to stuff when I don't want to. In your case, I suppose they're only trying to keep people relaxed and happy, but sometimes they just don't think!

All the people in that bit liked it, so I wouldn't have felt right getting it turned off. I can't read if music's playing - any music, really, let alone stuff that I wouldn't listen to anyway.

I find it difficult to read unless I have absolute quiet. Years ago I could read with the t.v. blaring, kids shouting, whatever, but nowadays I can't concentrate.

I remember hearing story about Dickens at a children's party that he had organised. He was sitting at a table, writing, and would ocassionally look up and watch the children for a while, smile, and go back to his work. (This was writing a novel, or an essay, not a postcard.) I can't imagine that.

Yes I probably am too old, mainly due to loss of contact with R1 & R2. Katie Melua is about as far as I got. i have learned to appreciate some French singers e.g. François Cabrel, Joe Dassin, Christophe. Anyone who says that Johnny Halliday can sing needs their bumps felt.
Is Pendulum a swing band. (I did say I was too old!)
