the trees they are replanting are the fast growing fir trees,which are not antive to the UK. Here in the Highlands they are trying to re-establish the Caledonian forest,by encouraging native trees to grow and culling the foreign fir trees. The woods near us,they have are culling huge areas of forest land of fir trees,to allow the regrowth of native beech and other trees,like the oaks and horse chestnut trees.

That will be brilliant. Following the '87 hurricane in the SE of England, a lot of the areas which were once thick with Oak and Beech trees have just been let go with no proper management - in their place have sprung weedy sycamore and silver birch.
