What exactly is it? Variations on a theme, but is the supermarket brand the same as the genuine article? I'm hungry. (not eating properly because of tooth abscess)

(not eating properly because of tooth abscess) i'm still not entirely sure.. a scots lady on another board said she was going to tell me, but only after i ate it.. but she still hasnt told me yet. i believe it to be bits of animals insides n stuff, with oatmeal n spices n other bits n pieces that they don't like to speak of. ;D

from wiki:
Haggis is a dish containing sheep's 'pluck' (heart, liver and lungs), minced with onion, oatmeal, suet, spices, and salt, mixed with stock, and traditionally simmered in the animal's stomach for approximately three hours. Most modern commercial haggis is prepared in a casing rather than an actual stomach.
Haggis is a kind of sausage, or savoury pudding cooked in a casing of sheep's intestine, as sausages are. As the 2001 English edition of the Larousse Gastronomique puts it, "Although its description is not immediately appealing, haggis has an excellent nutty texture and delicious savoury flavour".[1]

I reckon I'll have cheese on toast. (off work) Although I'm prepared to accept it's delicious and no worse than any sausage we might consume. Depending on the sausage.

Things can change for the better mate. Believe me. So long as you are ok. I've been at your age and wandering through cities and towns and villages and ending up in dense countryside mapping out my next move. It's never dull. But I hurt along the way.. ( a series of failed romances...lost my footing with closest family) Best of luck my friend.

Haggis is the dog's bollocks . .. not literally of course.
It's succulent, it's spicey, it's taste-filled. It's good for stuffing into chickens, it's good with mashed potatoes, it's good deep-fried with chips.
Haven't had it much recently; trying to eat more healthily and that.
But it's great.

An increase in your fluffiness is in order Costal for the deft bit of forkwork on your Mashed Potato. I can only guess that you were laying out the ground work for a bit of "Mash Art". Splendid!

When were were in Edinburgh recently, visiting our son, we went to a lovely restaurant in the Leith area called "The Shore" (definitely recommended). Anyhow, for the main course I had haggis, neeps and tatties. I'd had haggis before, but usually only in small amounts (like, say, chicken breast stuffed with haggis - again, delicious) but I liked it even more in larger quanities!

I've had vegetarian haggis, which was good: though probably nothing like the real thing.
Most vegetarian imitation meat isn't really like real meat: but the meat eaters who live with me (not the cats) quite like it - mainly because you don't get those tubes etc that you sometimes get in real meat.
I remember, as a child, sometimes having real trouble eating meat - actually swallowing it. The more you chewed the worse it got. Just couldn't get it down, sometimes.
