Were they just in tight jeans and nice tops? Hmm. Something like that - Accompanying the youngsters in their sweet gathering.

Not right now, but I can't be bothered today, so I'm having a pepperoni pizza from M&S -- free in a 3for2 mix'n'match deal. Looks great on the packet photo, but don't they always. I'll probably slice some fresh jalapeƱo on the top, and grate a little cheese onto it.
Snow on the hills this week. Very pretty.

Going back to page 1. I am distressed by the name "Peak Frean". I mean, come on. What the hell is that? Who was Frean and what did he peak at?

I think it must have been a Mr. Peak and a Mr. Frean.

Tonight we will be having a really easy dish but we think it's delish. One tub of creme fraiche, one packet of Sainsbury's cheap smoked salmon off-cuts, a nice handful of grated Parmesan cheese. Warm the creme fraiche and add the salmon and Parmesan cheese. Cook your pasta, drain and add a tablespoon or two of olive oil plus a good amount of freshly ground black pepper. Add the warmed creme fraiche mixture and serve with a bit more cheese if liked. Only takes a few minutes.

Tonight it's just sandwiches, with Schwarzwalder ham and Limburger cheese on wholemeal rye breadbuns, and a nice salad tossed in German dressing, followed by a fruit torte I just bought fresh in Emmerich am Rhein, washed down with a chilled Grafenwalder Gold Bier from the Lidl.

Weyland, I buy Brunswick ham from Sainsbury's - my sister-in-law put me on to it. Is Schwarzwalder (Black Forest?) ham similar? Smoked? God I love German food!

A bit chewy for me, but very tasty. Never had Brunswick ham. (Braunschweig, I think.) Should I? You'd love it here. I can cycle to a German village ten minutes one way, and get matchless bread, sausages, cakes, und so weiter; or the other way ten minutes, and get lovely Dutch cheese, matchless fresh yoghurt and custard, pretty good bread and cakes, en zo verder. And cheap diesel both ways. But it's bloody cold and damp here.

And talking of smoked things - you are going to bring me some smoked eel, aren't you, Weyland?

And talking of smoked things - you are going to bring me some smoked eel, aren't you, Weyland? From Holland, you mean, Jean? Paling? 1. The smokeries are in the west, and I'm on the German border. (But I have agents in the west.) 2. Would it keep for the 12+-hour journey, until I could get it in the freezer? All things panning out, I will. How many kilos?
