Youtube is surely the biggest time-waster ever. I'm supposed to be flicking the duster around and instead I've been watching snippets of films of the Glenn Miller Orchestra. I love that 1940s stuff.

Agreed. And Benny Goodman. And the Andrews Sisters. In Dutch they call superficial housework "de Franse slag", which means "the French flick". (Holland was occupied by the French for quite a while, and they haven't forgotten it yet.) Linguistic Note: The Dutch word "slag" usually means "hit" or "strike". Same root as the "sledge" in "sledgehammer". Nothing to do with what you were thinking.

I "discovered" Glenn Miller when I was a teenager. They showed "The Glenn Miller Story" (starring James Stewart) on t.v. and I fell in love with the music. I know all the words to "Chattanooga Choo-Choo"
