Question for you facebookers: If I am not a ''friend'' of someone on facebook, is it impossible to leave them a message? And is it possible to leave a private message rather than one of those wall ones? Even without doing the friend thing? Thank you in advance.

I don't think you should be talking to strange people on FB. AH

Hi Trubbs.. you should be able to leave someone a private message despite not being friends with them. I guess the only thing that would prevent you from doing so would be if the person had ammended their settings to only receive PM's from friends. But i have received private messages in the past from non-friends, so yes, in theory, it should be possible.

Thank you, fellas. I've decided that's good advice, Alph, so I am not going to stalk via Facebook after all. Instead, I am working on finding their details in the phonebook and sending them a letter, and if they are lucky, a couple of gaspy phonecalls. The old ways are the best. I hate Facebook anyway. I have decided to join Twitter now so I can hate that too. I will experiment with it for the week anyway, see how it enriches my life.

Oh I'm not sure about this following stuff. I am going to have to block Simon Pegg. He has virtually filled the page already this morning, flirting with some sci-fi writer called ''bonniegrrl''. I don't need to watch Simon Pegg flirting over my coffee with someone prettier, cleverer and wittier than me. Alain de Botton, on the other hand, hasn't said a peep. Must be shy.

I think Twitter's a bit daft too. It does work quite well when there's "an event" going on - for instant updates etc. I 'follow' some of the continuity staff on Radio 4 - it's an amusing little soap opera between them.

I joined, then left, Twitter. I couldn't get it. I prefer message boards

I have a Twitter account, but I never look at it.

Twitter is appalling. As is Facebook. It's all 'me me me me me'. My Space is even more frightful. Lots of goth lesbians with pages that take about two hours to load filled with Buffy the vampire slayer type graphics.
I've always thought that people whose main web activity is using the above aren't using the internet properly.

If that's the kind of person you have as a friend...
But, anyway, where did you find them? I know only one lesbian Buffy fan (and she likes Xena more).
