Ad at the top of this site for Renault, promoting it's new range of wholly electric vehicles, from a "Smart" style two seater through to a family saloon and van that it will be launching next Autumn. It begs the question whether we should legislate to make electric cars a bit noisier if they are about to become popular - as the price seems to be coming down now, with projections that these electrics will be the same price as the diesels. It's bad enough that some combustion engined cars are so quiet on tickover, that you may not hear them - what about electric cars whizzing along at 30mph?
Of course, it could open a new market in artificial car sounds couldn't it? The Car could be fitted with external speakers and you could buy sets of sounds that you plug into a usb port in the car! Duck Quacks - Lawnmowers - Washing Machines.
Actually, that thought's just as horrifying too! Ach well, it will have to be a whining noise then.

The solution is obvious, you have a robotic person running in front of the car with a little flag to warn people of said electric go-carts approach. AH
