Even if you haven't used a teaspoon for a day or so. hmmmmmm, its always a couple of bits of runner bean and half a chip in my sink... When we were kids and the sink was clogged up with food, etc., my brother and I would say to each other "Would you eat that for £100?" To this day, when we get together we still say it! If we're standing by a sink, that is.

That's not so easy. Latinus was obviously wrong because my name is not Latinus and I'm not masculine. But assuming you meant Latinis, your sentence might have meant You can obtain good work in eager and fruitful Latin things. This is not very sensible either. At this point I cheerfully admit that I nabbed it whole off a website. I've forgotten too much Latin to write anything like that. I gather that it's cod Latin. The warning signs were all over the site, but I couldn't resist. The last time I looked at Latin seriously was when I was trying to write a program to conjugate or decline any verb or noun I fed it. Not as easy as I'd thought, which I should have known already, having worked in a translation centre for a couple of years. One day I'll finish it.

On a Proboard I'm banned from (see, I can get banned too) someone is suggesting that Kate Middleton has anorexia.
Surely not?

Who cares about Kate Middleton's anorexia - we want to know where you're banned from and why Jean. That sounds infinitely more interesting.
(Kate M looks healthy enough to me.)

I'm banned from Jen's Tapestry - I didn't even get as far as being allowed to join - because it was thought I could not coexist with the Toad, who posts there as Erasmus.

Jen's Tapestry . . is that the one they set up as an offshoot of Bitbot when Lin told them to stop going on and on and on about the Muslims?

Jen's Tapestry . . is that the one they set up as an offshoot of Bitbot when Lin told them to stop going on and on and on about the Muslims? I think it may have been going before that, but they are allowed to talk about Islam a lot so mouse and fret are well in there. Liberaljoe was a member for a while, but went, or was pushed. Actually Islam one of the things the Toad's quite sound on. I was dropping in there from time to time to keep an eye on him, and complain to beth if he named me in the course of one of his slanders, so he then he took to calling me 'she who cannot be named'. But the Gender sub-board is now closed to the prying eyes of non-members, so I can only imagine what he's up to on there. (I keep asking Aubrey for a detailed account , but he seems to have more important things to do.)

At this point I cheerfully admit that I nabbed it whole off a website... I have never come across it before, but I see it pops up on an amazing number of websites. The translation given is always If you can read this sign, you can get a good job in the fast-paced, high-paying world of Latin! My translation was ...you can obtain good work in eager and fruitful Latin things. 'Alacer' is wrong, though. It only apples to people. And 'Latinus ' is very wrong indeed, which only one person on all those websites pointed out! So it is 'cod latin'. But who talks about 'cod Latin' these days? (Are you sure you haven't sneaked back onto the Beeb, Weyland? Someone was arguing yesterday that the non-mathematical use of reductio ad absurdum was 'cod Latin', but I don't think it is.)

I haven't been on any BBC board for at least two years. I can't even remember my current valid id there. It might be Professor Quatermass, or that might be one of the banned ones. It's written down somewhere, but that notebook's at home.

I've had quite a few posts removed by moderators on the BBC boards.
I blame Aubrey for the last one, which resulted in a severe ticking off.

At one time I used to keep a complete record of all posts on selected threads, for reasons of amusement, because those who post nonsense have a tendency to deny the nonsense at a later date, and the BBC kept no archives. This included many posts later moderated out of the historical record. The whole process automated and the stuff indexed in a MySQL database. I made no secret of this, in order to cause the guilty bozos such as Wilson maximum embarassment. He still kept denying the truth of the verbatim record. I was told, by the BBC, to stop keeping my archive, because it was, they said, insulting. I kid you not. And eventually I got banned for it.

I am at a complete loss - and believe me I have tried - to imagine what you could have been banned for. Apart from that recent creep to the right, your views are very moderate. And your language is always temperate.

It is (the keeping of the records) a little stalkery tbh. Merely seeking to hold up the Light of Truth amid the gathering darkness. Crushed beneath the jackboot of an unthinking bureaucracy.
