Well! I have in my hand, a piece of paper! (Actually it's on the fridge now)
There will be no collection on the 16/17 July
But apparently they will be collections on the weeks either side.
So - we will now have had a bin collection both last week and this week before one weeks break - No change there then really! One wonders what the point is?!
Not only are the unions completely Eunuchised these days - but the members of the union will be making there own lives more miserable by having to double there own workload for the properties they don't pick up at on the days due!

Huh? They are picking up either side of the strike (is it a strike?) so what's the problem, Bin-Lover?

Going on strike is so last century.
Through Common Purpose, I was touring a major engineering manufacturing plant last week. The shop floor workers are on about £32k per annum, but they work shifts. The Union is still strong. At the end of every shift all the machinery is powered down and turned off, then the new shift members coming in have to power it all back up again. As much of the work is heat based forging metals, I asked why they powered the machinery up and down as it seemed obviously wasteful.
The reason? Because the Union insisted.
It was like going back to the 1970s or something . . the power of the Union.
We were all gobsmacked.

Let's hear it for the first mention of "Common Purpose" <clappy smiley here!> ;D All unions seem to exist for is either add to H & S red tape, and pick up the pieces "after the event" so to speak these days. Best Beloved has been talking to her union over trouble at work (as opposed to the mill) - The union reps within the office are so entrenched with the company (protecting their own backs) that they are reluctant to do anything to help! The secondary option is to talk to the regional supervisor - 200 miles away in London - but presumably as handcuffed to his job as the locals! Here's a bit of trivia for you; Do you know why we have 24 hour telly now? Part of the reason is that it's cheaper for the Broadcasters to run the transmitters all night than it is to switch off at the end of an evening like they used to so they cool down. It's a pity that they have such a reputation now - For I feel (and here comes one of my "change the record" moments) We need unions more than ever before? There is a hell of a lot of money floating around in the corporate world - yet we still have a gender pay gap and a regional pay gap! We have jobs lost because we are now part of the global marketplace (as we're told) and it's just accepted that a couple of thousand can be made redundant overnight as their manufacturing jobs are moved somewhere else as if we will still benefit from that? My City has just lost the main developer in a regeneration project - because it's not viable for them anymore - thats 340 odd houses plus more (yawn) shops/restaurants and office space. There was a time when these things were built for towns and cities for the benefit of the people - not just to line the purse of the developer. No one expects charity, but there is no one now to effectively stand up against these corporations now - One year a bank is making humungus profits - with huge payouts to CEO's and directors - the next year there's a downturn - and the banks will put their interest rates up so we all have to pay for the next CEO payout! So on it goes, the same old same old - and no one learns - and politicians are happy to let these things run this way because most of the blame can get heaped on the new government that they hope won't be them after they're voted out! Mad? We certainly ought to be!
