I think it's wonderful to 'meet' someone bereaved by murder like you WW, who is not dominated by retributive impulses. Studies suggest that by no means all victims and co-victims are retributive, and suggesting that they are is just one of the reasons that is used to keep victims away from the criminal justice process.
More power to your elbow WW!

Thank you so much WW for sharing your story. I am in awe of your attitude and ability to reason, in what is the most dreadful of circumstances.
I too have had an example of someone who is not motivated by a mission for revenge. My late mil was put into Auschwitz and later Bergen-Belsen by the Nazis, at the age of about 12. She stayed there as a slave til she was released by the Brits, little more than a permanently traumatised skeleton. Despite this, I never heard her, or indeed any of her peers ( we have a large Holocaust survivors population here) speak of revenge. Her, and their, mantra was "L'Chaim"...( to Life) and somehow what some people have described as a perhaps childlike ( which is understandable as much of her development would have been arrested at 12) outlook. I cannot tell you how much I admire this in those people.
I sincerely wish you well. xxx

More power to your elbow WW! ............... my elbow. Yer a riot! No wonder I liked you straight off! I learned early on ~ well, a year or so after Jim's death, that while I was holding hating and a want of vengeance in my heart, there wasn't much room left for anything (or anyone) else.

Thanks so much for sharing about your mil. Sounds like a delightful lady. And, yes, I've known a few holocaust survivors, and all of them had a quiet strength about them, a remarkable ability to take joy as though it was a precious gift. They talked about their experiences with sadness, but not with hatred.
