"Japanese scientists plan to bring back mamoths in feat of genetic tampering with nature awesomeness..."It died out around 8,000 years ago…but in just five years the woolly mammoth could soon be walking the Earth again. Japanese scientists are behind an ambitious project to bring the long-extinct mammal back from the dead. The revival requires a sample of intact DNA for cloning purposes and an elephant to act as surrogate mother, donating an egg and her womb. Taking into account the 600 or so days needed for the pregnancy, the first baby mammoths of the modern age could be born in four to five years. www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1348000/Japanese-scientists-resurrect-extinct-mammoth-died-ice-age.htmlIs this just dripping with pure win or what? Next step will naturally be sabretooth tigers, giant cave bears and giant crocodilesOperation re-seed is go! AH

The Nazis tried to do that with those cows, didn't they? But that would have been for a different reason.
This looks pretty good.

Is this just dripping with pure win or what? Next step will naturally be sabretooth tigers, giant cave bears and ... I'd love to see some revived arachnids and other giant arthropods. Here's one for Ev . . . "The largest [spider] was called Mesothelae, and was about the size of a human head. Invertebrates in the past were able to grow much larger than they can today because of a higher level of oxygen in the atmosphere - for example, there was a type of dragonfly called Meganeura which had a two-foot wingspan, and Arthropleura, a creature resembling a giant centipede, could reach 8.5 feet in length."

Sezer, plenty of people to munch on for the carnivores. Yes to megafauna - No to people! AH On the other hand, I hear that a member of the Mesothelae tribe, carefully prepared and grilled on a hickory barbecue, with some fava beans and a nice Chianti, is the food of the Gods. If you get it before it gets you, that is. I believe they're particularly partial to a human gonad or two.

Here's one for Ev . . .I was cleaning out my conservatory today (well more of a lean-to really). It was very spidery and webby so I merrily sucked it all up into my vacuum cleaner and now I've had to put some cling film over the end of the hose so the spiders don't crawl out into my hall cupboard (where I keep my vacuum cleaner).

Yes I know. But they won't die a painful death. It'll just be dusty and they might cough a bit.

I haven't checked yet to see if they're all crammed against the cling film begging to be let free. everso hard My mother never warned me about Essex girls. If only I'd been warned! The gloves are off now, Ms Hard. The RSPCA Flying Squad will be kicking your door in pretty damned soon. Resistance is futile -- they have teams of confiscated Pit-bulls and retrained Sunderland fans at their disposal, not to mention genetically modified giant Hitachi tarantulas. You'll be sorry. And I've alerted Lily.
