Well spotted, ev. I hadn't seen that.
So now Riot (and I) will probably not be crouched over our census forms smearing them with bacon fat, attaching barely visible smudges of Blu-Tak and inking in the bits between the lines of the barcode in an attempr to frustrate the readers.

We haven't even opened the envelope.
But I hate modern forms. In the old days the questions were three lines long and you had to untangle them. Now they are four or five words and impossible to answer.
A client came in last week for help filling in a housing application form and my heart sank. She had been living abroad and returned to her parents in England after fleeing domestic violence. One of the questions - the one she needed help in answering - said "where do you usually live?"
What a blinking daft thing to ask a homeless applicant.
My dad was a solicitor and taught me to treat forms with contempt. He said that if you were unable to answer "yes" or "no" as required, cross both out and write an explanation in the margin. I'm told the processors hate that too, but what else can you do?

The Census Enforcers are sallying forth today, to harass defaulters. A £1000 fine is possible.
I sent mine in by post. Over the past few years several letters and packages to and from me have disappeared in the post, which seems common enough these days. Only this week I've had two packages dumped on the doorstep in the rain and another shoved in the scruffy recycling box.
I guess several million other people sent theirs in by post too. An unscrupulous Government could potentially make billions by denying receipt.

I think that would make his day.
I'd imagine they get so many that they have to do, and if there's someone who doesn't need help or cajoling to fill it is, he'd get home quicker.
I like to think that this is true.
