When we contemplated moving oop t'North, one of the things I did was check out the council tax rates in the different areas, and was surprised to see that where we were going was higher. So I thought is might just be a one off - so I checked it against four or five other towns in the South - with the same result. Now, I got a bit of a bee in my bonnet about this and checked again over the next couple of years - with the same results from the same towns/cities some perhaps a bit bigger, some, a bit smaller perhaps.
I left off for a while - but I've just been lured back in, and Lancaster City council is more expensive for council tax than Tunbridge Wells, Southampton and Canterbury. in band B, it's about £80 or so, by the time you get to Band H - Lancs is about £200+ more.
When I originally did it, I tried it on the above - plus Maidstone, Eastbourne and Hastings, with only the South coast towns coming out at less.
I think it's time to ask someone.
Has anyone else ever been anorakky enough to do this? Or is it just another one of my foibles!
Our CT for the past year was £1132.96 Band B.

I just had to quote you to see how you built that pretty little box! Show off! Funnily enough, I chose Godalming and Guildford at one time too - mainly 'cos a friend of mine lived there (Dinner party conversation - if I had them - "Did you know...." etc etc) I notice we pay about £200 more than Glasgow! and even when you add on their Water rates which are included we're only £100 less! If you chuck in our water bill too it makes £300 more than them! Luxury! They don't know they're born!

Band B for me in the upcoming year is £1130.95 so it is nearly as much as you but not quite, and this is the highest in my council area for some reason

I daren't look to see if they've declared this year's yet. Ours is one of the idiot councils that invested a few million in the Icelandic Banks! Suffice to say, various venues for enjoyment and festivals are being cut for this year, and all ecruitment has been cancelled etc.
